Job Title Leading Researcher – Language Modeling and Computer Vision (R4) Reference and Opening Reference: 146_26_AII_AII_R4 Closing Date: Friday, 08 May 2026 Responsibilities Providing strategic leadership and technical direction for the Language Modeling and Computer Vision research groups. Acting as the Principal Investigator for national and international research projects focused on foundational model development. Managing extreme‑scale supercomputing resource allocations across European and national infrastructures. Overseeing multidisciplinary teams, including research engineers, scientists, and specialized data annotation groups. Directing the design and execution of high‑impact training pipelines for multilingual and multimodal models. Representing the institute and the centre at high‑level international forums and strategic meetings. Ensuring scientific excellence through rigorous research publication and competitive funding acquisition. Requirements Education: PhD in Natural Language Processing, Computer Science, or a related field focused on artificial intelligence. Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience Extensive experience leading large‑scale research teams and managing complex project roadmaps. Proven track record in training and aligning large foundation models within high‑performance computing environments. Experience managing massive supercomputing allocations at an international level. Strong background in deep‑learning frameworks and the infrastructure required for extreme‑scale model training. Experience acting as a Principal Investigator for multi‑institutional and international AI projects. Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience Recognized scientific excellence with high‑impact publications, a high citation count, and a significant h‑index in top‑tier AI and NLP venues. Fluency in spoken and written English at a professional and scientific level. Knowledge of Spanish co‑official languages such as Catalan or Basque is considered a plus. Competences Outstanding leadership and team‑building skills in a highly technical environment. Strategic vision for the future of generative AI and foundational model research. Ability to coordinate complex institutional relationships and manage diverse stakeholder interests. Capacity to resolve high‑level technical and organizational challenges independently. Conditions Location: BSC, Director’s Department. Contract: Full‑time (35h/week), open‑ended. Benefits: flexible working hours, extensive training plan, restaurant tickets, private health insurance, support for relocation procedures. Holidays: 22 days + 6 personal days + 24th and 31st December per collective agreement. Salary: competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience, adjusted for cost of living in Barcelona.
