See if you can shadow a friend’s parent at their construction company to learn the tricks of the trade. Or ask the manager of your favourite bar if you could do a few shifts to practice the art of bartending and pick up some skills.

How will this help you at your next interview ?

Simple. Share your story about how you take initiative to learn new things and enjoyed the challenge. This will show your hiring manager that you’re willing to do the work. Drop in a few names of the people you have meant and learnt from during your interview as well.

Start off by telling where you’re studying or where you have graduated from (and if you haven’t, no worries!). Use your inexperience to let your manager know that they can train you the way they want and that you’re super-motivated to learn. If you’re good with your hands, talk about that. Tell your manager how you assembled that new bed in your apartment all by yourself or how you helped a friend cater a dinner party.

Each and every experience you have had will count in helping you ace your job interview.
