As the UK has vaccinated 15 million people uptill now, British society is finally starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel. The COVID-19 pandemic has put a lot of fine people, like yourself, out of work – so know this, you’re not alone in this boat.

Whether you were already a jobseeker pre-COVID or were let go due to the crisis, we at JOB TODAY are and will always be here to support you. On that note, here are some tips on how you can find a job under COVID-19:

Be patient and positive

Patience is a difficult virtue to master. However, this COVID-19 era has given you plenty of opportunity to practice it. Use it to your advantage and do not lose hope. Staying motivated as a jobseeker under COVID-19 is one battle you must win.

Remember that companies are also functioning under stress with fewer resources than before as their sales have dwindled. Some sectors have been hit more than others – such as hospitality, tourism and air travel. Hence, it’s perfectly understandable if a potential recruiter takes some time in getting back to you.

You can always take a proactive approach and follow up on your application status. Job platforms such as JOB TODAY allow candidates, like you, to message an employer directly. Go ahead and register as a jobseeker now to start applying for jobs and chatting with employers.

Jazz up your online profiles

Take this time to boost your online profiles quality and give hiring managers an excellent first impression. Don’t leave out any empty fields and provide as much relevant, complete information as possible. Include your skills, education, projects and areas of interest.

Consider part-time work or volunteering

Until you get your ideal job, why not take up a part-time gig to reel in some income or donate your time to a worthy cause? This will keep you productively occupied and let you dip your feet into new waters.

You never know- perhaps that new part-time job could be your calling and newfound passion!

Hone your video interview skills

Remote interviews are the new global norm and will remain so for the foreseeable future. This means you must appear engaging during your video call.

Here are a few tips on how you can polish up your remote interview skills:

  • Look directly into the camera for eye contact
  • Pick a plain background for attention to remain on you (no skylines or such in the background!)
  • Dress professionally head to toe
  • Always thank the interviewer for their time

Improve your skills

We live in a digital age where information is just a click or a swipe away. Why not take advantage of it and update your scope of skills? With an abundance of free courses available online, you can take your pick!

If not up for courses, just browse the latest industrial news, trends and such.

Network away

It is challenging to expand your professional network virtually – but given that’s the reality now, time to get comfortable with it.

First, rekindle your relationship with people you’re already connected with and let them know you’re on the hunt for your next job. Secondly, join organisations and social media groups/pages that represent your area of work or interest. Participate in group discussions, online conference events and such. You never know whom you’ll meet (online!) who will offer you a break!

Change your field

If you’re from one of the sectors that has been more adversely affected by COVID-19, consider a change in your industry. With hiring in specific spheres increasing such as delivery driver jobs– you could explore whether such an option appeals to you. Apart from this, there are plenty of high paying COVID-19 jobs you can look into.

We understand that finding a job under this lockdown is not only challenging but seems like an impossible feat. However, there is active hiring going on and there are job opportunities for young like people, like you, even during this pandemic.
