An excellent and well established restaurant, bookshop and antiques space in Camden, set in a historic late 19th century building offering a quirky and eclectic dining and retail experience. Recently named number 2 in Observer Food Mag.
We are looking for an experienced sous chef to work diligently with our existing excellent kitchen team under the guidance of our executive chef. You will need to be passionate, professional and genuinely interested in and committed to helping us, the owners of a well established and popular daytime only vegetarian and vegan cafe/restaurant, literary and antiques space in Camden to deliver and continuously evolve our seasonal food offering to our loyal and many new customers. This is an exciting period of growth and we are looking for the right fit. You will need to be super passionate about food and ingredients, their seasonality, sourcing and provenance, the creation and presentation of dishes as well as be driven by consistency, precision and exacting standards. You will be able to help manage the kitchen operation by working closely with the owners and our current kitchen team and be happy with sharing and the responsibility of running our kitchen. We occupy a truly unique space for London, overlooking a 40 year old award wining social enterprise garden centre and we are continually looking to build on existing high levels of customer experience, quirk and professionalism. We were recently named by The Observer food magazine as the number two venue for breakfast in the UK and we want someone who is excited about building on these credentials. The job includes usually both weekend days as well as 2 weekdays with some shifts working alone. It is a salaried position. It is daytime only and around 32-40 hours maximum. We are looking for a front of house ambassador. We are an experience led, dining space, curated bookshop an antiques space serving fantastic, ethical and meticulously prepared food as well as speciality coffee, loose leaf teas, hot chocolate, cold drinks, natural wines and craft beer and ciders. As our front of house professional you need to engage will all aspects of our offering. If you think FOH is easy and anyone can do it we are not the place for you. If you think training is not required do not apply. If you have experience of speciality coffee and drinks that would be great but equally we are happy to train the right person as we would expect our lead weekday FOH to be able to make drinks if need be. A passion for great food, coffee and drinks is required as well as a genuine interest in the stories behind what we do. You will need to be a great ambassador for all our offerings and engage with customers as we operate in a very open setting and the role is interchangeable at times with bar service. An interest in books and antiques would be an advantage too. The role is for around 30 hours per week with a maximum of five days per week. The role will not usually include weekends but may do from time to time so flexibility is required. Full training is given for the right person and attitude is more important than experience for this role however some experience of ideally speciality food and drink service is required.
