A waiter or a waitress belong to the hospitality industry and are usually employed in hotels, restaurants, cafes, coffeehouses, bars, pubs and such. This role entails taking, handling and managing food and drink orders for all customers.

A waiter or waitress’s core task is to ensure that the customer has a pleasant experience at the establishment where they work. This is achieved by providing friendly, effective services in a safe, hygienic ambiance. A waiter and waitress may also take phone reservations, greet and show visitors to their table, give the menu and their own food/drink recommendations. When in between consumers, waiters and waitresses also clean and reset the tables with fresh plates and cutlery. Being an expert at multitasking will lead to an increase in customer satisfaction and tips as a waiter/waitress will process the final bill.

To become a waiter or waitress, the candidate should be of the legal required age to land this job. Depending on the level of experience, about £7.5/hour to £15/hour. If the applicant in question has no experience, they can always start at an entry-level position and work their way up.
