Babysitter for a 22 year old with autism - Special needs babysitter - New York

The Day Care Assistant/Helper supports the daily operations of the childcare center by assisting with the supervision and care of children, maintaining a clean and safe environment, and helping teachers and staff with daily routines. This position does not serve as the lead teacher but plays an essential role in ensuring the smooth operation of the program. • Help children during meals, snacks, toileting, handwashing, and other daily routines., • Set up and clean up classroom activities and learning materials., • Sanitize toys, tables, cots, and classroom equipment throughout the day., • Maintain clean, organized classrooms, bathrooms, and common areas., • Assist with nap time, playground supervision, and classroom transitions., • Help prepare and distribute snacks and meals., • Encourage positive behavior by modeling kindness, patience, and respect., • Ensure the health, safety, and wellbeing of children at all times., • Follow all center policies, health and safety procedures, and licensing regulations., • Assist in different classrooms as needed., • Communicate respectfully with children, families, and coworkers., • Attend required staff meetings and training sessions., • Perform other duties assigned by the Director.

Columbia Secondary School is a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) focused public school that serves students in the sixth through tenth grades. The program is focused on leadership, STEM, Social-Emotional Learning, community service, and academics. Students engage in weekly hikes, gardening initiatives, STEM activities, job shadowing, and college readiness programs. POSITION OVERVIEW: Group Leaders are responsible for academic tutoring and assisting lead instructors in preparing students to demonstrate newly acquired skills in STEM, leadership, sports and the arts. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: • Provide academic support, homework guidance, assistance, and supervision to students., • Organize, lead, and promote the students’ interest and participation in the activities offered by you or the program., • Supervise groups of students while maintaining their physical and emotional safety and health., • Foster an atmosphere of fun and learning, and serve as a role model to students., • Always conducting yourself professionally and maintaining appropriate boundaries., • Establish and enforce rules for behavior, and procedures for maintaining order among the students., • Maintain effective classroom management that encourages full participation and student growth., • Closely coordinate with the Program Director and coworkers for any programmatic changes or any other issues or concerns., • Participate in staff meetings, program evaluations, program improvement, and professional development training throughout the school year. COMPENSATION: • Work paid at $20 an hour., • Employees who are approved and assigned to teach classes will receive the Teaching Artist hourly rate of $21 an hour for the hours they are actively teaching. All non-instructional hours will be compensated at the employee's regular position rate of $20 an hour. POSITION TYPE / EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK: • Part-time position., • Available Monday-Friday from 1:30 pm - 6pm (15-20 hours per week) with room for flexibility., • School in the Square is Monday-Friday from 2:30 pm – 6:30 pm (15-20 hours per week) with room for flexibility. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: • Must be at least 18 years old., • High school diploma., • Experience in running activities with Middle School (6th- 8th) grade students with different learning abilities., • Has some experience in writing lesson plans and leading 45-60 minute educational activities for youth., • Must be able to attend student engagement trips and assist hosting student events in school and for other YM & YWHA programs. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: • Bachelor’s, Associate, or degree in progress., • Experience using a positive youth development model., • CPR certified., • Teaching Artist- Must have background in teaching or leading an activity.
