The FDC will develop a partnership between student participants and their families and include helping participants set reachable goals for their own self-reliance, methods for achieving them, and providing or facilitating access to services needed to reach these goals, offering encouragement, and exploring challenges and opportunities to identify solutions for themselves. The power of the relationship exists between the participant and the FDC and will be built on mutual respect and trust. The FDC will focus on changing behaviors rather than “fixing problems," and will support participants in identifying and developing their strengths. The FDC will coordinate services and ensure that they are aligned and integrated with participants’ needs and goals.
