Job Description About us: Venue Description The James Beard Foundation PLATFORM is a mission-centered showcase kitchen, event, dining, and culinary demonstration space, as well as a vendor kiosk featuring a rotating calendar of visiting guest chefs. PLATFORM, which includes event space for up to 80 guests, is situated within the new Pier 57 Food Hall, home to 17 additional culinary kiosk vendors serving as an incubator for local small businesses and food entrepreneurs aligned with the Foundation’s mission of championing a standard of good food anchored in talent, equity, and sustainability. Focus The ideal candidate is a seasoned manager who can develop and direct food and beverage service program with high hospitality service standards are met. Educate and coach all employees on food, beverage and hospitality standards. Oversee front of house food service operations for quick service food hall and event space to include pop-up restaurants, tasting kitchen, and James Beard Events Responsibilities • Oversees employees to maintain NYC Department of Health guidelines., • Perform administrative tasks, including weekly and monthly financials., • Maintain budgets for food, beverage, and labor costs., • Knowledge of company computer program Caterxpert., • Responsible for system succession planning/employee development/diversity initiatives/training/constructive counseling, • Maintain and develop client relationships and client satisfaction for all aspects of operation to ensure account retention., • Prioritize venue operations and reports to meet compliance and deadlines., • Foster a climate of cooperation and respect between all team members., • Understand and evaluate information to meet objectives., • 3-5 years prior food and beverage management experience., • Experience overseeing multi-faceted operations including event operations with food service corporation/restaurant/and or hotel., • Effective communication both verbally and written with all levels of employees, guests, vendors, and clients in a professional and courteous manner., • Ability to manage culinary team and front-of-house operations., • Anticipate and identify problem areas and implement effective solutions., • Proficient in computer programs, specifically excel., • Knowledge of POS operating systems and programming., • Knowledge of NYC Health Department guidelines, including safe temperature at which ingredients must be kept and to which food must be prepared to avoid foodborne illness., • New York City Food Handler’s Certificate will be required within one month of employment., • Calm and professional demeanor to work in a high-stress, fast paced environment., • Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends., • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and stand for at least 8 hours.
