Job Description Bergen Community College's Division of Continuing Education and Workforce Development is seeking qualified instructors to teach a non-credit Advanced Sewing & Garment Construction course to adult learners. This course teaches students how to construct a tailored jacket from a commercial pattern, which will further advance their sewing, finishing, and pressing skills to a professional level, including learning to make the Double-Welt Pocket, also known as a Besom Pocket. This project will also increase their knowledge by selecting and utilizing fabrics/materials used in tailoring, such as hair canvas interfacing, lining fabrics, shoulder pads, sleeve heads. Instructors will develop and present course materials during the assigned course times, coordinate materials with the Program Coordinator and follow up with paperwork. Instructors must have a strong knowledge of constructing a tailored jacket and advancing professional sewing and tailoring techniques, including experience working with industrial sewing machines, commercial patterns, pressing equipment, and traditional tailoring materials. POSITION SUMMARY Responsibilities included but are not limited to: • Provide high-quality, engaging instruction with hands-on learning experiences in both lecture and laboratory settings., • Develop and maintain course curriculum and syllabi aligned with industry standards., • Track attendance and assessments, ensuring accurate data entry for student records., • Monitor and evaluate student performance, offering constructive feedback to support improvement and ensure course objectives are met., • Assign and assess projects that enhance students' learning and application of course material., • Organize field trips and invite guest speakers, as needed, to enrich the learning experience., • Grade student progress and achievements fairly and consistently., • Foster active student engagement in all aspects of the educational process., • Contribute to course/program evaluation for continuous improvement., • Promote the course through events and marketing initiatives. SPECIAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS: Education - College degree in fashion design, apparel construction, tailoring or a related field Experience - Five years in the field with experience in fashion design, garment construction, and tailoring in the fashion industry. Two years of instructional experience in teaching and training, especially with adults Other: Be available to teach evening, Saturday, or online classes as required.
