Job Description Sewist / Seamstress & Sewing Content Creator About Mood Fabrics Mood Fabrics is a leading fashion fabric retailer and creative hub for designers, sewists, and makers worldwide. We are seeking a highly skilled sewist/seamstress who is equally passionate about teaching through video — someone who can sew beautifully, explain clearly, and bring sewing to life on camera. This is a hands-on, in-person role based at our Lodi, NJ office, working closely with our pattern, marketing, and creative teams. Role Overview This role combines advanced garment sewing with short-form and tutorial-style video content creation. You will sew garments (primarily women’s silhouettes), document the process, and create engaging educational content for platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, and the Mood Sewciety blog. The ideal candidate is confident behind a sewing machine and a camera — able to explain techniques clearly, troubleshoot issues in real time, and make sewing feel approachable, polished, and inspiring. Responsibilities Sewing & Pattern Development • Sew high-quality garments focused on women’s fashion silhouettes with strong attention to construction, fit, and finish, • Analyze, test, and refine sewing patterns (including beta patterns) to improve clarity, accuracy, and sewability, • Identify and troubleshoot pattern or construction issues before and during sewing, • Collaborate with patternmakers and internal teams to ensure technical accuracy and brand alignment Video Content & Tutorials • Create short-form sewing videos, tutorials, and process clips (Reels, TikToks, Shorts), • Confidently record sewing demonstrations, voiceovers, and on-camera explanations, • Plan simple outlines or step-by-step flows for sewing tutorials, • Set up and operate basic filming equipment (iPhone/iPad/camera, tripod, lighting, mic), • Capture clean, well-framed sewing footage while actively sewing, • Edit short-form video content (or prepare footage for editing) using tools such as CapCut, Premiere Pro, Final Cut, or similar, • Create supporting visual assets (process photos, detail shots, thumbnails when needed) Documentation & Collaboration • Write or contribute to clear, comprehensive sewing instructions and tutorials, • Align with marketing and content team leads for creative direction, deadlines, and deliverables, • Assist with responding to blog comments and community questions related to sewing tutorials and patterns, • Pull fabric swatches, trims, and samples as needed for content creation, testing, and documentation, • Manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining quality and consistency, • Maintain an organized sewing and filming workspace Required Qualifications • 3–5 years of professional sewing experience, with strong garment construction skills, • Advanced understanding of women’s fashion silhouettes and fit, • Ability to explain sewing techniques clearly and confidently, • Comfortable being on camera and speaking while demonstrating techniques, • Experience recording and editing short-form video content, • Strong written and verbal communication skills (excellent English required), • Ability to anticipate and solve sewing or pattern issues independently, • Portfolio demonstrating sewing work and instructional or video content Preferred / Additional Qualifications • Experience creating sewing tutorials for social media, blogs, or online courses, • Ability to sew and document 1–2 patterns per week, • Familiarity with digital pattern drafting software or technical flats, • Experience fitting garments on models and making real-time adjustments, • Background in teaching, workshops, or instructional content, • Active presence in online sewing communities or personal sewing content, • Knowledge of current fashion and sewing trends, • Proficiency with Google Suite and basic digital workflow tools Requirements • In-person availability at Mood Fabrics (Lodi, NJ), • Reliable transportation, • Portfolio submission required (sewing + video/tutorial examples strongly encouraged), • Job Type: Full-time, In-person, • Location: Lodi, NJ, • Schedule: Day shift, 40 hours/week, • Pay Range: $18–25/hour (based on experience), • Medical insurance, • Dental insurance, • Paid time off, • Retirement plan, • Opportunities for growth and expanded creative responsibility Interview Process • Virtual introductory call, • Practical assessment (sewing sample + short tutorial or video task) This position sits at the intersection of craft, education, and content.
