Summary: The ARC (Animal Recovery Center) and CARE (Canine Annex for Recovery and Enrichment) are facilities dedicated to the recovery and rehabilitation of victims of cruelty and neglect admitted through NYPD and the ASPCA’s Humane Law Enforcement (HLE) and Community Engagement (CE) programs. Our dedicated team of more than 45 sheltering, medical, and animal behavior professionals work closely with the ASPCA Animal Hospital, Forensics, Legal Advocacy and Investigations, Behavioral Sciences, Shelter Medicine Services, Community Engagement, Placement, and the Adoption Center teams to ensure coordinated response and operations, and holistic, balanced, high-quality care for the animals we serve. The Director of Veterinary Services, ARC will perform all the duties of a licensed veterinarian, including providing compassionate, high-quality, practical veterinary care to a wide range of cruelty, neglect, and at-risk animals. In addition, the Director will provide a management presence on the floor to ensure efficient and effective animal flow. The Director will hold the entire team accountable to act with urgency, providing balanced, high-quality care to the animals, coordinating with departments, and practicing ___ values. This position directly manages 1-2 Licensed Veterinary Technicians. This position affords a wonderful opportunity for a veterinarian to drive forward the care and rehabilitation of animals who are victims of cruelty and neglect. ARC is comprised of medical, behavior, and direct care teams working together to recover, enrich, treat, and support a wide range of cases. *The schedule for this role is Sunday-Wednesday, 9am-7pm (flexibility on Sunday with possibility of 8am-6pm). Responsibilities: Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: Managing Medical Cases (60%): • Ensure ARC provides high quality individualized care, considering the medical and behavioral needs of our patients while maintaining overall population medicine using shelter best practices to a wide range of cruelty, neglect, and at-risk patients., • Serve on a panel with medical, behavior, and sheltering leaders to review cases and make weekly pathway planning decisions, including humane euthanasia decisions, taking into consideration animals’ physical and psychological well-being, using organizationally aligned tools developed to assess quality of life and readiness for adoption., • Perform humane euthanasia for animals deemed unsuitable for placement, working closely with the behavior and medical teams to ensure a compassionate, low-stress procedure., • Perform medical intakes on all new NYPD and CE cases admitted to ARC and in collaboration with partner departments for animals admitted to veterinary partner hospitals, AAH, ARC, and Adoption Center as needed., • Provide medical support for large scale NYPD and CE cases., • Perform exams, diagnostic tests, and medical treatments with full utilization of Fear Free medical handling. Ensure all staff are practicing Fear Free handing., • Develop skilled and efficient diagnosis and treatment plans following ARC/CARE/AAH medical parameters and guidelines., • Provide medical care for outpatients of owned, fostered out and/or animals in transition to the Adoption Center and placement partners., • Maintain thorough, high quality medical records, documenting all exam findings, test results, and treatments., • Work with partner hospitals as needed, including referral for advanced care, and assessing medical stability of new cases at partner hospitals., • Respond to after-hours medical concerns., • Oversee and maintain the ARC animal census. People Management/Managing Patient Flow (20%): • Oversee the daily medical care and case flow of the animals housed in ARC., • Lead the Daily ARC rounds meeting., • Lead ARC LVT meetings as needed., • Develop, disseminate, and keep current the ARC Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and ensure their implementation. Facility-specific SOPs are developed in conjunction with CARE, AAH, Adoption Center, BST, and SMS to ensure best medical, sheltering, and behavioral practices., • Model a standard of continued commitment to improve and expand upon all aspects of ARC including, medical, behavior, housing, safety, and animal flow., • Set expectations and goals and provide consistent, high-quality feedback to direct reports, including regular 1:1s and quarterly feedback sessions to build strong relationships, provide clear direction, and encourage opportunities for development. Complete annual performance evaluations., • Practice and espouse positive, people-centric management approaches that are in line with team and organizational core values., • Recommend internal and external training opportunities as needed for direct reports in identified areas., • Respond to concerns from direct reports and selected administrative staff, addressing them promptly and accordingly., • Handle employee-relations issues with confidentiality and care, ensuring compliance with any applicable collective-bargaining agreements., • Conduct corrective actions related to performance., • Maintain proactive communication with the Senior Director as to any critical situations or issues., • Support the Senior Director of Veterinary Services in handling any adverse client or patient events appropriately and professionally., • Model a standard of continual commitment to improvement in all aspects of ARC animal care and handling of dogs and cats., • Serve as a champion in times of change management and proactively partner with the ARC and CARE Leadership team in identifying ways to improve people policies and medical protocols., • Collaborate with the AAH Office Manager and Senior Director of Veterinary Services to ensure ARC has appropriate DVM coverage 7 days per week., • In collaboration with the AAH management team, ensure the ARC veterinary team is scheduled for all required training, meetings, and lectures. Interdepartmental Communication/Administrative/Other (20%) • Collaborate and support the work of partner departments, particularly the Humane Law Enforcement, Community Engagement, and the Adoption Center departments., • Maintain strict confidentiality when dealing with criminal cases., • Attend staff meetings, doctor meetings and other requested meetings., • Provide medical information and represent ARC to the public and to media when requested., • Provide a high level of customer service to external and internal clients., • Create, model, and follow written and verbally communicated ASPCA and ARC Standard Operating Procedures., • Assist with special projects, presentations and data collection as requested., • Other duties as assigned. Job Description The Unaccompanied Children Program provides long term and transitional residential care and other supportive services to Unaccompanied Children (UC) who are under legal custody of the Federal Government. Working in collaboration with the federal Office of Refugee Resettlement, ORR, our program provides a safe and nurturing environment for youth in a Basic Shelter program located at our licensed residential facilities as well as a Transitional Foster Care program in foster homes in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens and Westchester. In all programs, we provide therapeutic, medical and educational services, as well as other supports that youth need to achieve success through an array of strength-based and targeted interventions as we link them with family members and/or other sponsors in the United States. We want all children we support to move forward with their lives and thrive. About the Role The Clinical Supervisor oversees the clinical services of the UC program. We are seeking a Clinical Supervisor with a license to provide clinical services (i.e.: LMHC or LMSW), and we are invested in supporting their continued professional development by providing clinical supervision towards further clinical licensure. Moriviv Residential Program is a 51 bed scattered site safe dwelling. The goal of this program is to provide short term, emergency shelter for people fleeing domestic violence. Program staff work with each participant to develop an individualized action plan that connects them to support services and helps them secure permanent housing. Supportive services include: counseling, support groups, case management, childrens services, referrals for educational/vocational facilities, job preparation and health promotion for women and children. The Program Manager is responsible for the overall daily operations of the program and the safe dwellings. In addition to acting as VIPs primary coordinator to assure that all efforts are fully met and exceed contractual obligations (programmatic and administrative) and direct the day-to-day activities of risk management, safety/security, maintenance and client move-in/turn-over. Summary: The ARC (Animal Recovery Center) and CARE (Canine Annex for Recovery and Enrichment) facilities are dedicated to the recovery and rehabilitation of victims of cruelty and neglect admitted through NYPD and the ASPCA’s Humane Law Enforcement (HLE) and Community Engagement (CE) programs. The Licensed Veterinary Technician at the ASPCA Canine Annex for Recovery and Enrichment (CARE) is responsible for a broad range of medical and administrative tasks in the CARE that serves animals admitted through the NYPD Partnership program. The LVT delivers compassionate nursing care and has a broad knowledge of animal science, medicine, and husbandry, including a basic knowledge of pharmacology, shelter medicine, behavior, and proficient mathematical skills. Created as a grassroots response to intimate partner violence and sexual assault, VIP has always centered survivors in its leadership and has worked to create a community of staff that reflects the rich national, ethnic and racial diversity of the communities it serves. VIP runs four non-residential social service programs, two residential shelter and housing programs, and a robust community engagement team. The Moriviv Residential Programis a 51-bed scattered site safe dwelling. The goal of this program is to provide short-term shelter for survivors of domestic violence and their children. Supportive services offered at Morivivi include individual counseling, support groups, case management, childrens services, housing advocacy, and referrals for educational/vocational facilities and job preparation. Morivivi promotes healing, empowerment, andself-sufficiency while providing asafe and supportive environmentfree from violence. The Maintenance Workeris responsible for performing the routine upkeep and extensive range of work in the repair and general maintenance of office buildings, safe dwellings and/or apartments; incl. surrounding grounds. The Maintenance Worker is under the direct supervision of the Morivivi Program Manager. The Maintenance Worker is on call for building/apartment emergencies 24 hours a day. SERVICE AND CARE COORDINATION • Ensure residents receive appropriate quality services per organizational principles and program requirements., • In coordination with Social Worker (if available), design service and care plans that provide customized information, counseling, crisis intervention, direct service, and advocacy services to residents; and coordinate linkages to external and community-based services., • Collaborate with other service providers and external organization to help residents resolve immigration and citizenship issues, secure public benefits and charitable gifts and donations, pursue employment and entrepreneurial opportunities, independence, and long-term stability., • For family sites: coordinate with Recreation Team (if available on site) to ensure school-age children receive transportation services, school transfers, and ESL/ELL and IEP curriculum as needed., • Develop and maintain a resource network for referrals as related to service needs of residents., • Meet with residents in assigned caseload at least once a week to assess progress with service and care plans. Modify plans as needed., • Conduct weekly room inspections to ensure healthy hygiene and housekeeping. Coordinate with Social Workers and/or Treatment Team to mitigate behaviors that compromise the health and safety of residents., • Ensure residents in assigned caseload are enrolled in and receiving eligible public benefits and city programs in accordance with DHS requirements., • Ensure residents follow through with appointments, documentation submissions, and other required activities to maintain enrollment and participation in benefits and DHS programs., • Document interactions and communications with and on behalf of residents in CARES and AWARDS., • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor and Program Director. ENTRY LEVEL QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS Education and Experience: High School Diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s degree in social work or psychology preferred. Three years of experience working in a shelter or similar field can be substituted for the education requirement. • Experience: Two years’ experience in case management, counseling, or direct advocacy for clients in social service settings. Experience with immigrants and immigration issues is a plus., • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proficiency in English required, multi-lingual and Spanish proficiency a plus., • Computer skills: Basic competency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook and the internet, • Math Skills: Ability to formulate simple financial budgets., • Physical Performance: Ability to make unit visits (walk distances, climb stairs, etc.), • Reasoning Ability: Ability to prioritize, make appropriate decisions and judgment calls., • Experience working with homeless individuals and people living with health and/or mental health issues and substance use. Ability to engage residents.
