Role Description Legacy Online School is seeking reliable and adaptable K–12 Online Substitute Teachers for fully remote positions. Substitute Teachers provide instructional support when assigned teachers are unavailable, ensuring continuity of learning and maintaining a structured, engaging virtual classroom environment. Substitutes may be assigned to core subjects (English, Math, Science, Social Studies) and electives across Elementary, Middle, or High School, depending on qualifications and school needs. Please note: All new Substitute Teachers are required to complete a training and onboarding period, which typically lasts between one week and one month, depending on performance and readiness. Key Responsibilities Deliver virtual lessons based on provided curriculum and lesson plans. Ensure continuity of instruction in the absence of the primary teacher. Maintain classroom structure, engagement, and positive student behavior in an online setting. Track attendance and provide basic feedback on student participation and progress. Follow school policies and instructional guidelines. Collaborate with academic staff and report any important updates regarding student performance or concerns. Be available on short notice when substitute coverage is required (as scheduled). Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field (preferred). Prior teaching or instructional experience (online experience is a plus). Strong classroom management skills in a virtual environment. Ability to quickly adapt to different grade levels and subjects. Strong communication and organizational skills. Comfortable using educational technology and online learning platforms. TEFL/TESOL or similar certifications are a plus. Compensation and Career Growth Base Rate: $10/hour. Substitute Teachers may be considered for transition into a full-time teaching role based on performance, reliability, and instructional quality. Eligible Substitute Teachers may also enter the structured Teacher Career Path Framework, which includes: Performance-Based Salary Increases. Conversion Bonuses (where applicable). Annual Performance Bonus of up to 10% of annual earnings. Opportunities for advancement into Lead Teacher or other academic roles. Work Details Work Location: Fully Remote Working Hours: As assigned (based on coverage needs; primarily within 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM EST) Employment Type: Contract (1099)
