Our partner is a leader in semiconductor metrology through the use of wavefront phase imaging, a technique derived from research in adaptive optics for astronomy. With a multidisciplinary team, and a flagship product, the company is revolutionizing semiconductor metrology with the highest lateral resolution and fastest measurement technique for in-line factory measurements. They're looking for a Engineering Manager for out to lead their System Engineering function as they scale. You'll manage a team of 5-10 engineers (junior/mid-level) working on complex metrology systems, balancing delivery execution with team development in a fast-paced scale-up environment. You'll report to the Head of Engineering and work closely with the System Architect to translate product roadmap and technical vision into executable delivery plans. The position is based at its offices in San Cristóbal de la Laguna, Tenerife. 🚀 Key Responsibilities: Team Leadership • Lead, coach, and develop 5-10 system engineers across integration, validation, performance optimization, and technology demonstration., • Foster a high-ownership, delivery-focused culture., • Drive onboarding and skill development for junior and mid-level engineers., • Manage quarterly planning, objectives, and execution commitments., • Escalate capacity conflicts and blockers to Head of Engineering. Product Ownership & Delivery • Own and prioritize the System Engineering backlog in Jira based on capacity, risk, and system maturity., • Balance incoming work from internal customers (software, mechanics, optics, applications) and demo requests against team capacity., • Perform capacity planning and workload allocation across SE domains., • Coordinate cross-functional dependencies and keep delivery on track., • Translate product roadmap into executable system engineering plans. Risk & Readiness Management • Provide fact-based capacity assessments and delivery risk analysis., • Recommend go/no-go on demos and releases based on validation evidence and system maturity., • Support trade-off decisions on feasibility, sequencing, and prioritization., • Identify and manage delivery risks and execution blockers. Technical Contribution (~10%) • Provide technical guidance and mentorship in at least one domain (metrology, quality, optics, mechatronics)., • Review system behavior, test results, and failure modes., • Participate in critical technical reviews and root-cause analyses. 🎯 Essential Requirements: • 5-8 years in system engineering, electromechanical, optomechanical, or related fields., • Minimum 2 years leading or managing technical teams., • Strong technical expertise in at least one system engineering domain (integration, validation, optics, mechatronics)., • Experience with Agile backlog management and delivery coordination., • Proven ability to manage competing priorities and stakeholder requests., • Solid understanding of complex precision systems (metrology, optics, semiconductor equipment, or similar)., • Strong coaching and mentorship skills for developing engineers., • Excellent communication across technical and non-technical stakeholders., • Experience managing demo cycles or customer-facing deliverables., • Fluent in English and Spanish., • Residence in Tenerife. 🔝 Key Skills: • Agile Product Owner certification (CSPO, SAFe PO/PM, or equivalent)., • Experience in metrology, optical systems, or semiconductor equipment., • Background in system-level integration and validation. The ideal candidate is a delivery-focused leader who can juggle internal customer requests, coach a growing team, and keep things moving in a fast-paced scale-up. You'll balance competing priorities, make smart trade-offs, and say "no" when capacity is constrained. You don't need to be a deep metrology specialist, but you must have enough technical depth to earn your team's respect and engage credibly with architects and stakeholders.
