An opportunity has arisen for an Optical Field Service Engineer to join the Grafton Optical team, servicing ophthalmic diagnostic equipment for our Optometric and Ophthalmology clients.
Duties will involve undertaking service visits and installations at clients’ premises as well as repairing and servicing equipment at our base. The role will include providing telephone and IT remote access support to our clients when necessary. The successful candidate would either demonstrate a sound understanding of electro-mechanical fault finding or IT and IT-related issues within the Optical service sector.
The role will require travel across the UK and Ireland including overnight stays, sometimes at short notice. However, we are based in Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire and this will be the successful candidate’s base. Occasional attendance at major UK exhibitions will be required.
A good salary package with overtime is available. We operate a company car scheme, company pension scheme and a mobile phone will be provided.

Who are we looking for?
- Capable of installing and servicing ophthalmic equipment for the Optometry and Ophthalmology markets
- Electrical diagnosis using a multimeter essential
- Relevant IT experience desirable
- IT, installing programs, resolving driver issues and networking desirable
- Electro-mechanical experience desirable
- Must be able to effectively manage your own time and ensure that clients are offered an excellent level of service
- Must be conscientious with excellent timekeeping
- Must hold a full UK driving license
- Must be able to travel and stay across the UK and Ireland as necessary.
- Some heavy lifting is involved in installations. The candidate must be fit, able and willing to carry out such tasks.
The package details for the role are below:
- £30,000 per year, rising to £32,000 after a successful probation period
