CMM Engineer Derby, UK £45,000 – £50,000 Monday–Thursday: 7:30am–4:00pm | Friday: 7:30am–12:30pm About the Opportunity A well-established advanced manufacturing organisation within the aerospace and precision engineering sector is seeking a Metrology / CMM Engineer to play a key role in improving measurement capability across its operations. This is a high-impact position focused on optimising CMM processes, improving inspection efficiency, and standardising metrology practices across multiple sites. The role offers the opportunity to influence group-wide engineering strategy, introduce modern metrology techniques, and help drive continuous improvement in a highly regulated manufacturing environment. The RoleKey Responsibilities • Evaluate and improve existing CMM programming, inspection strategies, and measurement methodologies, • Conduct site reviews and gap analysis to identify opportunities for improvement across multiple facilities, • Develop and implement a group-wide metrology and CMM strategy, • Standardise programming practices, inspection plans, and measurement frequencies, • Improve efficiency by optimising CMM cycles, probing strategies, and fixturing, • Introduce automation and offline programming techniques to increase throughput, • Support quality reporting including FAIRs, capability studies, and SPC, • Provide technical leadership and training for CMM programmers and inspectors, • Work closely with Quality, Manufacturing Engineering, Design, and Operations teams, • Support customer audits and technical queries related to measurement, • Contribute to New Product Introduction (NPI) ensuring robust measurement strategies are implementedWhat They’re Looking ForExperience & Skills, • Experience working as a CMM Programmer or Metrology Engineer in aerospace or precision engineering, • Strong proficiency with CMM programming software (particularly PC-DMIS), • Solid understanding of GD&T, engineering drawings, tolerances, and complex geometries, • Experience with measurement system analysis (MSA), SPC, and capability studies, • Knowledge of probing systems, fixturing, and inspection methodologies, • Exposure to automated inspection systems, laser scanning, CT, or non-contact metrology is beneficial, • Familiarity with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement practicesQualifications, • HNC/HND or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline, • CMM or metrology-related certifications are advantageousAdditional Details, • Location: Derby, UK, • Working hours: Early finish every Friday, • Travel: Some travel to other sites may be required, • Industry: Aerospace / Precision Manufacturing
