The Company, We are recruiting on behalf of a well-established, high-end main contractor operating across London and the Home Counties. Specialising in bespoke residential and commercial projects up to £5m in value, this is a Director-led business with a strong reputation for quality, precision and exceptional finishes. As they continue to grow, they are looking for an ambitious Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team and develop into a fully-fledged QS within a supportive and professional environment. The Role, This is a fantastic opportunity for someone in the early stages of their surveying career who is looking to progress within a high-quality main contracting environment. You will work closely with senior members of the commercial team, gaining hands-on exposure to all aspects of quantity surveying across a varied and prestigious project portfolio. The role will initially be on a freelance basis with a view to going permanent for the right candidate. Key Responsibilities: • Assisting with cost planning, estimating and procurement activities, • Preparing and managing subcontractor packages and orders, • Measuring and valuing works on site, • Assisting with the preparation of valuations, variations and final accounts, • Reviewing and understanding contract documents including NEC and JCT forms of contract, • Supporting the commercial team with monthly cost reporting, • Maintaining accurate commercial records and documentation, • Liaising with site teams, subcontractors and clients as required Requirements: • Relevant degree in Quantity Surveying or Construction (HNC/HND considered as a minimum), • Previous experience working within a main contracting environment, • Working towards or open to pursuing RICS accreditation, • Some exposure to a construction or commercial environment — graduate or placement level considered, • Strong Excel and general IT literacy, • Good understanding of NEC or JCT contracts, • Excellent communication, numeracy and attention to detail, • Ambitious, self-motivated and eager to progress into a full QS role Package: • £40,000 – £45,000 per annum (permanent), • 20 days holiday, • Temp to perm opportunity, • Based in Orpington, Kent, • Work on prestigious high-end residential and commercial projects, • Genuine career progression into a full Quantity Surveyor role
