Daycare Teaching Assistant
Hearts and Minds Daycare LLC – Jamaica, Queens, NY
Hearts and Minds Daycare is seeking a dependable, energetic, and caring Teaching Assistant to join our early childhood education team. We serve children ages 2–5 and are looking for someone who enjoys working with young children and understands that a strong classroom requires active engagement, teamwork, consistency, and attention to daily routines.
Responsibilities
The Teaching Assistant will work alongside the classroom teacher to support the daily operation of the classroom. Responsibilities include:
- Actively supervising and engaging with children throughout the day
- Supporting learning centers, small-group activities, circle time, art projects, and other classroom activities
- Assisting children during meals, transitions, toileting, handwashing, rest time, and other daily routines
- Helping prepare classroom materials and activities
- Maintaining a clean, safe, organized classroom
- Cleaning and resetting tables, learning centers, toys, and classroom materials throughout the day
- Supporting meal and snack setup and cleanup
- Assisting with arrival and dismissal procedures
- Completing assigned classroom and daily support tasks
- Following classroom schedules, center policies, and staff procedures
- Communicating professionally with teachers, administrators, children, and families
- Using positive, age-appropriate guidance and redirection techniques
- Supporting other classrooms or areas of the program when needed
We Are Looking For Someone Who:
- Is dependable and arrives to work on time
- Is warm, patient, and comfortable working with children ages 2–5
- Takes initiative and notices what needs to be done
- Can remain actively engaged with children rather than waiting to be directed throughout the day
- Works well as part of a team
- Can follow established routines and procedures
- Is comfortable with cleaning and classroom-maintenance responsibilities
- Is willing to receive coaching and professional feedback
- Communicates professionally and respectfully
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Early childhood education coursework or experience preferred
- Previous daycare, preschool, childcare, camp, or classroom experience preferred
- Must be able to meet NYC childcare personnel requirements
- Must be willing to complete required trainings and clearances
- Ability to stand, bend, sit on the floor, lift classroom materials, and remain active throughout the workday
Schedule
Monday–Friday
Part-time and full-time scheduling may be available based on program needs and candidate availability.
