Job DescriptionJob Title: Quality Control Inspector (Days) Job Description This role focuses on inspecting parts and materials for pumps and rotating equipment in a busy shop environment. You will ensure that all components meet precise specifications by reading blueprints, performing detailed measurements, and documenting inspection results using computer systems. The position requires strong attention to detail, hands-on experience in a pump or machine shop, and a commitment to maintaining high quality standards. Responsibilities • Inspect pump components and rotating equipment parts in the shop to ensure they meet specified quality and dimensional requirements., • Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings to determine correct dimensions, tolerances, and inspection criteria., • Use precision measuring tools such as micrometers and calipers to verify part sizes to tenths of thousandths of an inch., • Measure inside diameters (ID), outside diameters (OD), bores, threads, and lengths of parts with a high degree of accuracy., • Perform visual inspections to identify defects, nonconforming conditions, and any deviations from specifications., • Document inspection results accurately, including nonconforming findings, and maintain detailed quality records., • Upload drawings and related documentation into computer systems and ensure all records are organized and up to date., • Work closely with pump mechanics, machinists, and welders to address quality issues and support continuous improvement., • Support quality assurance processes by following established inspection procedures and contributing to quality checks., • Operate effectively in a manufacturing or fabrication environment where pumps and rotating equipment are serviced and repaired., • Assist with identifying metals and materials to ensure correct components are used and inspected., • Use Microsoft Excel and other computer applications to record data, track inspections, and prepare basic reports., • Collaborate with the broader shop team to maintain a safe, efficient, and clean work area while handling high volumes of parts.Essential Skills, • At least 5 years of quality control experience in a manufacturing, fabrication, pump, or machine shop environment., • Hands-on experience working in a pump shop or with pumps and rotating equipment., • Proficiency using micrometers and calipers to measure parts to tenths of thousandths of an inch., • Ability to accurately measure inside diameters (ID), outside diameters (OD), bores, threads, and lengths of components., • Strong blueprint reading experience, including interpreting dimensions, tolerances, and machining requirements., • Demonstrated experience performing quality inspection, quality assurance, and quality checks on mechanical parts., • Ability to identify nonconforming parts and document nonconforming conditions clearly and accurately., • Experience working around machining processes and familiarity with threads, bores, and precision machined surfaces., • Computer literacy, including experience uploading and managing drawings and documentation in digital systems., • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel for recording measurements, tracking inspections, and maintaining quality records., • Ability to identify metals and understand material differences relevant to pump and rotating equipment components., • Comfort working in a high-volume, busy shop environment with pumps, rotating equipment, and related parts.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Previous experience in a machine shop environment supporting manual machinists and pump mechanics., • Background in a manufacturing or fabrication environment with exposure to quality assurance practices., • Experience with visual inspection techniques and recognizing defects in machined and fabricated components., • Familiarity with inside and outside diameter measurements using various precision instruments., • Exposure to rotating equipment and pump overhaul or repair work., • Ability to collaborate effectively with machinists, pump mechanics, and welders in a team-oriented shop., • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high quality standards in all inspections., • Comfort working with spreadsheets, documentation tools, and digital filing systems for quality records.Why Work Here? Work Environment The role is based in a medium-sized, air-conditioned shop that is very busy and filled with pumps and parts due to high business volume. The company plans to move to a larger facility in the near future to accommodate continued growth. Day shift staffing typically includes manual machinists, pump mechanics, and a welder, while the night shift also operates with a dedicated team of machinists, pump mechanics, and a welder. Day shift hours are Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with Saturday hours from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., including two paid breaks and one unpaid lunch. Employees generally work 10-hour shifts and can expect 50 to 60 hours per week, with occasional Sundays paid at double time. Night shift runs Monday through Friday from 3:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m., with Saturday hours from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., also with two paid breaks and one unpaid lunch, and includes a 10% shift differential. The shop environment is collaborative and fast-paced, with many employees demonstrating long tenure and strong loyalty. The dress code includes steel-toe footwear, jeans, a work shirt, and safety glasses, reflecting the hands-on, safety-focused nature of the work. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Brookside Village, TX. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
