Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Thin Film Deposition Engineer, specialised in Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) role based in Viladecans. This is a role to lead the development and optimisation of thin-film deposition processes for advanced semiconductor materials, with a strong focus on sputtering and evaporation techniques. You will translate materials research into functional devices and prototypes, driving innovation from the atomic level up to full device integration. The Thin Film Deposition Engineer will also act as the technical owner/co-owner of the PVD module, collaborating closely with the multidisciplinary teams across process integration, lithography, and device development. Key Responsibilities • Design, develop, and optimize PVD processes including sputtering and e-beam/thermal evaporation for advanced semiconductor stacks., • Develop and implement robust process flows for thin-film deposition in R&D and pilot-scale environments., • Apply Design of Experiments (DoE) and Statistical Process Control (SPC) methodologies to improve process stability, repeatability, and yield., • Analyze experimental data and continuously refine process parameters., • Perform and interpret measurements using SEM, XRD, AFM, ellipsometry, and related metrology tools., • Correlate thin film properties with device performance and reliability., • Collaborate with lithography, etch, and device teams to ensure seamless process integration and successful device fabrication., • Document experimental findings through technical reports and internal documentation., • Contribute to intellectual property development and patent filings., • Take ownership/co-ownership of PVD equipment, including process troubleshooting, vacuum system diagnostics, and preventive maintenance., • Collaborate with equipment vendors and external partners to improve tool performance and explore new deposition technologies. Qualifications • Master’s or PhD in Materials Science, Physics, Photonics, Chemical Engineering, or a related field., • 3+ years of hands-on experience in a cleanroom environment, working with PVD deposition systems., • Strong expertise in PVD techniques, particularly sputtering and evaporation., • Solid understanding of vacuum systems, plasma physics, and thin-film growth mechanisms., • Experience with thin film characterization techniques (SEM, XRD, AFM, ellipsometry)., • Familiarity with CVD or ALD deposition techniques., • Experience using DoE, SPC, and data analysis tools (e.g., JMP, Python, MATLAB)., • Strong problem-solving and analytical mindset., • Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary R&D teams., • Excellent communication skills in English., • Strong team builder and collaborative team player, with a clear drive for continuous learning and improvement.
