The life sciences industry plays a significant role in advancing healthcare and improving the quality of life - in many cases, saving millions of lives globally. At BASE life science, this is the motivation for everything we do, aimed at pushing boundaries, seeking excellence, and making a lasting difference through consulting expertise and data-driven solutions. Founded in 2015, BASE life science is a business and technology consulting company working exclusively in life sciences, built on a simple purpose: grow our people, and deliver real impact for our customers. We don't think AI is a feature you bolt onto existing systems — we think it's the layer through which a life sciences company's strategy actually gets executed, end to end. Most of the industry is still proving AI can do one task at a time, function by function, pilot by pilot. We're building toward something bigger: AI that runs across clinical, regulatory, quality, and commercial work instead of stopping at the edges of a single application. With headquarters in Denmark and offices across Spain, Switzerland, the UK, Germany, France, Italy, and the US, we work with top-10 pharma and ambitious biotechs alike, and with technology partners including Veeva, Salesforce, IQVIA, Google, AWS, Microsoft, and Amass — turning that belief into deployed, compliant, sellable solutions, not slideware. We are looking for a proactive, enthusiastic, and versatile Data Consultant to join our team in Spain. In this role, you will work at the intersection of technology, business, and the life sciences domains, with a strong focus on data migration projects. You will help translate customer requirements into structured technical logic and support the execution of migration and data-related activities in a controlled and compliant way. You will work with tools and platforms such as Python (Pandas, Prefect, Requests, ...) SQL, Excel, Ubuntu/Linux, VS Code, Azure DevOps, GitHub, PuTTY/WinSCP, Jira, and Confluence to analyse data, define transformation logic, document approaches, and support project delivery. At the same time, success in the role depends on your ability to collaborate closely with clients and colleagues, communicate clearly, and challenge constructively when needed. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys combining technical problem-solving with client interaction, and who wants to grow in a dynamic consulting environment within life sciences. • Translating business and customer requirements into clear technical logic and structured migration or data-handling activities, • Supporting the design and execution of data migration and data processing tasks in a controlled, traceable, and compliant manner, • Working with data, logic, and processes to ensure tasks are performed accurately and in a controlled manner, • Collaborating with clients and internal teams to understand needs, challenge assumptions, and propose the right approach, • Presenting technical solutions and explaining complex topics in a clear and accessible way, • Contributing to data quality, documentation, and governance best practices We offer this position in Spain. We are looking for someone who is comfortable working across both technical and business-focused tasks, and who enjoys being in the middle of collaboration, problem-solving, and delivery. To succeed in the role, you likely bring: • A Master’s degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) or another quantitative field, • Strong proficiency in Python, including experience with version control, code sharing, and team-based development practices, • Advanced experience skills in Microsoft Office, including very good Excel skills and solid presentation skills in PowerPoint, • A structured and analytical mindset, with the ability to turn requirements into clear logic and practical solutions, • Confidence in working directly with customers, including asking questions, challenging constructively, and presenting solutions, • Curiosity, a willingness to learn, and motivation to grow your experience, • High attention to detail and a quality-focused way of working, • A proactive, team-oriented attitude and the ability to work independently when needed, • PuTTY/WinSCP, • Jira/Confluence, • Working in regulated environments, including GxP, • Life sciences domains such as clinical, quality, regulatory, laboratory, safety, and commercial, • Data migration, data handling, or controlled process execution, • Consulting, client-facing work, or other roles where business and technology come together At BASE, you work on meaningful, complex challenges at the intersection of technology, science, and business. We trust our people with real responsibility and support them in turning ambition into impact — grounded in five core values: team spirit, trust, openness, ambition, and execution. • Ambition, encouraged through ownership and continuous learning., • Execution — we focus on delivering solutions that work in practice., • Openness — your ideas are heard, challenged constructively, and supported as you grow., • Flexible ways of working, built on trust, autonomy, and balance., • The opportunity to shape a practice, not just staff one. Alongside this, we offer: • Support for health and wellbeing, covering physical, mental, and social needs, • Flexible ways of working, built on trust, autonomy, and balance, • Ongoing learning and professional development throughout your career, • A modern work setup, with the tools and equipment needed to do great work, • Recognition of performance and impact, linked to contribution and results, • The opportunity to work on challenges that make a meaningful difference for patients and healthcare systems worldwide Explore our work, values, and people at www.baselifescience.com #J-18808-Ljbffr

We’re looking for a Database Systems Engineer who thrives at the frontier of distributed databases, storage engines, transactional systems, and analytical query execution. FastS3 is building AI-native data infrastructure from the ground up. We are looking for an engineer to help design the database layer that sits above PixelDB, our distributed key/value object storage engine, and works with TEMPANO, our custom Iceberg catalog and compaction API. This role is not about building a conventional application database, a Postgres extension, or a simple lakehouse connector. It is about helping design the foundation for a system that can support transactional, analytical, and vector workloads over the same live data layer. You’ll work closely with engineering leadership to prototype and build the core components of a distributed table engine: commit logs, MVCC, stable Row IDs, secondary indexes, snapshot publication, compaction, query execution, and integration with Iceberg-style table metadata. • Design and prototype a transactional table engine on top of PixelDB., • Work on MVCC, commit logs, transaction visibility, snapshot isolation, and serializable consistency., • Design stable Row ID abstractions so indexes point to logical rows rather than physical storage locations., • Build metadata and manifest flows that connect live transactional writes to TEMPANO and Iceberg-compatible analytical snapshots., • Help design compaction, version cleanup, and garbage collection that do not block long-running analytical queries., • Explore query execution paths for point reads, range scans, analytical scans, joins, and vector retrieval., • Work on distributed storage layout, partitioning, object placement, erasure‑coded data, and recovery semantics., • Collaborate with systems and AI engineers to support agentic workloads that require transactional, analytical, and semantic access to live data., • Benchmark latency, throughput, consistency behavior, write amplification, and query performance under concurrent workloads., • Strong systems programming experience in Rust, C++, Go, or C., • Practical knowledge of database internals, storage engines, distributed databases, or query engines., • Experience with MVCC, WAL/commit logs, transaction processing, indexing, compaction, or recovery., • Understanding of distributed systems concepts such as consensus, replication, failure recovery, consistency, and concurrency control., • Familiarity with analytical formats or engines such as Apache Iceberg, Delta Lake, Parquet, Arrow, Trino, Spark, DuckDB, or ClickHouse., • Ability to reason deeply about tradeoffs between OLTP, OLAP, and vector workloads., • Comfort moving from architectural design to prototype code, benchmarks, and production‑quality implementation., • Strong debugging, profiling, and performance‑analysis skills., • Experience building or contributing to database kernels, storage engines, query planners, transaction managers, or distributed SQL systems., • Hands‑on work with PostgreSQL internals, CockroachDB, YugabyteDB, TiDB, FoundationDB, ScyllaDB, Cassandra, ClickHouse, DuckDB, Neon, or similar systems., • Experience with Apache Iceberg, Delta Lake, table catalogs, manifest generation, compaction, or lakehouse metadata., • Knowledge of vector indexes such as HNSW, IVF, PQ, ANN search, or hybrid vector/SQL execution., • Experience designing systems around stable logical IDs, append‑only storage, object storage, LSM trees, B‑trees, or log‑structured architectures., • Background in high‑performance networking, distributed storage, RDMA, erasure coding, or object storage., • Open‑source contributions, papers, or deep technical writing related to databases, storage engines, or distributed systems. FastS3 is building infrastructure for the next generation of AI‑native data systems. Our vision is to move beyond fragmented pipelines, replicated warehouses, and bolt‑on vector extensions by designing a data layer where transactional, analytical, and semantic workloads can operate over the same live data. You’ll join a team working at the intersection of distributed storage, database internals, lakehouse architecture, vector retrieval, and AI infrastructure. If you’re excited by the idea of building a new database architecture instead of extending yesterday’s systems, this is the role. We’re growing our team in Madrid and looking for engineers who want to build core infrastructure from first principles. FastS3 is proud to be an inclusive, equal opportunity employer committed to diversity, equity, and accessibility for all. #J-18808-Ljbffr
