About X1 Wind: X1 Wind is a disruptive floating wind technology developer. Based in Barcelona, Spain, the firm’s mission is to provide highly scalable solutions which deliver clean, affordable energy while reducing carbon emissions across the globe. The company is currently in the pre-commercial phase of its technology development and has managed to position itself as one of the front runners of the floating offshore wind sector, having been able to deploy and test the first fully functional TLP floating wind platform in the world (in late 2022), under the PivotBuoy project (X30). Our sustainable, innovative, and disruptive technology has garnered significant public support, allowing us to progress in proving its operational viability. This backing will propel our next milestone: installing a pre-commercial unit at the PlemCat test site in the Spanish Mediterranean Sea. At the same time, the company is already working with clients worldwide to prepare their future large scale commercial floating wind projects. Role description: The Strategy and Business Development (BD) team of X1 Wind has the overall objective of securing a project pipeline to ensure the growth of the business. Such project pipeline is being built by two parallel streams: A) internal efforts for project co-development with partners and B) commitment from clients to use the company’s technology in their projects. The preparation of both of these streams requires a strong effort of market research and intelligence, financial modelling, funding applications, client outreach (utilities, renewable energy developers, infrastructure funds, etc), responses to RFIs and tenders, among other activities. The selected candidate will have the role of Strategy and BD Associate and will have the following main responsibilities: Participate in the definition of the Business Development strategy for the company Engage proactively with clients in target markets, fostering relationships and representing the company at conferences and industry events; Prepare public and private funding proposals and negotiation of funding conditions and terms, including the development of financial models, definition of target financing structure and writing of public funding proposals; Lead the preparation of information packages for floating offshore wind tenders and RFIs from potential clients, ensuring alignment with project requirements and strategic objectives; Develop information for floating offshore wind projects, namely reports for permitting process, agreements for joint development with partners, feasibility assessments (in coordination with the engineering team), etc; Conduct market intelligence and research on key floating offshore wind markets (Europe, US, Asia and others), including legislation, maritime spatial planning, key potential partners, available public support and funding sources, etc; Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering, legal, and finance, to ensure seamless project execution and alignment with overall business objectives. Stay informed about industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory developments, and integrate relevant insights into tender management strategies and processes. The position reports directly to the Strategy and BD Director, who can provide guidance in all these aspects. This means that previous experience in all the above points is not required, but candidates lacking experience in some of these will be expected to learn quickly. Minimum Requirements: Candidates are expected to have at least the following skills and experience for their application to be considered: Education: Candidates must hold an Engineering, Business Management or Economics degree; Work experience: Candidates must have at least 2 years of experience in a relevant position within the strategy, M&A and/or business development departments (or equivalent) of an energy company, namely a leading utility/developer, wind turbine OEM or O&G company; alternatively, similar experience in top tier consulting firms is also considered; Software: good command of Excel modelling and PowerPoint presentations; Language: English and Spanish are the main languages of communication in X1 Wind, so an advanced level is required for all candidates. Other valuable skills and experience: Consider the following list of nice-to-have skills and experience that will be highly valued during the selection process, but not a hard requirement to apply: Ability to work independently while remaining in touch with the needs of the rest of the team; Fast learner, as the candidate will be expected to get up to speed quickly with status of projects, funding applications, client relationships, etc. Ability for self-learning when required; Willingness to travel internationally for business meetings and other professional commitments; Ability to do public presentations in conferences and other public settings; Curiosity and pro-active attitude.
