1-800-FLOWERS.COM, Inc. is seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented, and hands-on Product Development Assistant – Plants & Preserved Gifts to join our Product Development team in Jericho, NY. This is an exciting opportunity for someone looking to grow their career in product development and gain hands-on experience bringing consumer products from initial concept and samples through commercialization, photography, and launch. Working closely with the Sr. Director of Product Development, this role will support the development and management of our Plants & Preserved Gifts assortment. You’ll work directly with physical product samples, live plants, packaging, product information, pricing, vendors, and cross-functional teams to help ensure products are developed accurately and launched on time. What You’ll Do • Support the development and commercialization of seasonal and core products within the Plants & Preserved Gifts assortment., • Manage and maintain product line lists, assortment information, and supporting product documentation., • Coordinate product samples throughout the development process, including receiving, unpacking, labeling, organizing, tracking, and preparing samples for meetings, photography, testing, and vendor reviews., • Work hands-on with live plants, preserved products, hard goods, packaging, and other physical product samples., • Help coordinate key product development milestones, timelines, approvals, and follow-up activities., • Maintain accurate product, component, packaging, pricing, and specification information., • Support gross margin calculations and review product costs and pricing for accuracy., • Partner with vendors on sample shipments, revisions, tracking, and product development needs., • Coordinate photography samples and creative turnover materials, ensuring product features, attributes, colors, descriptions, and other information are accurate., • Review product information, images, pricing, names, and launch dates for accuracy before products go live., • Maintain an organized sample and product development environment so products are readily available for meetings, presentations, photography, and development work., • Gather market, competitor, and trend information to support product and assortment development., • Partner cross-functionally with Merchandising, Planning, Procurement, Vendor Relations, Quality Assurance, Creative, Photography, and Legal., • Assist with product presentations, assortment turnovers, commercialization meetings, and other product development activities. What We’re Looking For • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Merchandising, Product Development, or a related field., • 2+ years of experience in product development, merchandising, product management, or a related area., • Experience within décor, gifts, floral, plants, home, fashion merchandising, or another consumer product category is a plus., • Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail and accuracy., • Ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, samples, and detailed product information in a fast-paced environment., • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint., • Comfort working with product costs, pricing, basic retail math, and gross margin information., • Strong written and verbal communication skills., • Collaborative approach and ability to build relationships across multiple teams., • Curiosity, initiative, accountability, and a willingness to ask questions and learn., • Adobe Creative Cloud and/or PLM system experience is a plus, but not required. A Hands-On Product Development Role This is a hands-on product development position rather than a graphic design or desk-only role. You’ll regularly interact with physical products and samples throughout the development process, including unpacking shipments, organizing samples, working with live plants and plant materials, moving products between workspaces, and preparing items for meetings and photography. The expected salary for this position is $66,000 annually. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, skills, internal equity, and other factors permitted by law.
