Our Advocates and Rape Crisis Counselors (RCCs) deliver compassionate support in emergency departments for survivors of acute sexual assault and human trafficking victims. GOAL: Provide compassionate trauma-informed, culturally sensitive support and the highest level of service to victims of human trafficking, domestic violence, and sexual assault to assist and support them while rebuilding their lives after trauma. , RESPONSIBILITIES: • Provide 24-hour crisis intervention, in-person or virtual counseling, accompaniment to medical and other appointments or emergencies, and or court accompaniment, criminal justice and family court advocacy, assistance obtaining reimbursement for expenses related to the crime, medical and legal referrals and comprehensive referrals for needed services to rape and sexual assault victims, victims of domestic violence, and human trafficking, • Answer and provide support on the agency chat, the 24-Hour Rape Crisis, and Domestic Violence hotlines during non-office hours for emergency crisis intervention and potential in-person response. You will be required to complete a minimum of a 40-hour RCC training prior to answering the hotline or providing in-person rape crisis response and Domestic Violence Liaison training., • You will be on 24-hour call a maximum of two times per week and will be expected to answer the CVC Hotline or provide sexual assault response services to victims in emergency departments., • Educate all victims and their non-offending family members of their rights, eligibility for services and/or crime victim compensation, and on the criminal justice or family court process. Attend specialized trainings to become sensitive to the needs of rape, domestic violence, sexual assault, hate crime victims, all victims of violent crime and elderly, minor and disabled victims of all crime., • Maintain detailed and organized advocacy case files (electronic and hard copy) in accordance with advocacy policy and procedures manual and submit to random audits to ensure quality control. Complete daily entries into the agency CMS., • Provide the supervisor with updated weekly and quarterly case status and case referral reports for entire caseload and initial each section. Submit to regular audits., • Coordinate with therapy program staff to maintain continuity of therapeutic services., • Participate in training as needed and record your participation in the training database. Provide up-to-date training to all non-advocacy staff that have telephone contact with any caller., • You will be required to learn and provide a PowerPoint presentation(s) training on a selected topic(s) as assigned to agency staff and/or for outreach., • Collaborate with the OVS Vocational Rehabilitation Unit, • Counseled, and provided crisis intervention, emotional support, criminal justice advocacy, referrals and guidance, • Educated about their right as crime victims, • Educated about the criminal justice and/or family court process, • Educated regarding available services (including medical, food, clothing, etc.) and provided multi-agency referrals (minimum 3) and provide assistance as needed., • Provided law enforcement referrals as needed, • Provided courtroom and medical accompaniment as needed, • Provided NYS and other state Victim Compensation program claim assistance and assistance in application for eligible reimbursements and assistance with VINE registration, • Provided assistance in the preparation of Victim Impact Statements (using established format) and act as an intermediary between family and criminal justice and social service agencies (DA, PA, Probation, DSS, CSE), • In cases of sexual assault, provide information regarding sex offender registration., • You will be on call a maximum of 2 days per week. If you are called out you will complete a form for approval which will deduct the hours you spent accompanying a victim from your work week., • Ensure that all literature is in place in targeted areas such as police precincts, DA’s office, schools, hospitals, SANE Centers, CAC etc. as assigned in outreach plan., • Present Agency Outreach presentations as required, • Prepare and distribute Advocacy outreach letters and materials in accordance with outreach plan, • Train new staff and interns as directed, • Prepare and distribute weekly statistical and narrative progress reports highlighting referrals., • Monitor and participate in ongoing case review and supervision, • Support leadership on attendance of agency or program meetings, research, and other projects as directed., • Participate on a volunteer basis in agency fundraising and other events as required., • Participate in the new recruit screening process for staff and interns., • Complete advocacy outreach initiatives as assigned., • Maintain a tidy and organized work area and assist in maintaining a tidy office along with all other staff, • If you are unable to come to work you are required to follow agency protocol to take time off and are required to rearrange any appointments you have schedule that day., • Please be advised that you may be assigned additional responsibilities by agency management. MINIMUM EDUCATION & ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Bachelors Degree Certified Rape Crisis Counselor (we provide this training). Crisis intervention, experience with working with crime victims and in the criminal justice process. Experience with criminal and family court procedures. Excellent research, telephone, interpersonal and presentation skills (Power Point) Agency performs background checks and applicants must submit to pre-hire and random drug testing. Excellent communication, public speaking, computer, and interpersonal skills needed. Analytical, self-starter, well organized. Highly motivated, rapid learner.
