Job DescriptionJob Title: Diesel Mechanic Job Description This role offers an opportunity for an experienced diesel or auto mechanic to perform comprehensive truck and bus repair and maintenance in a collaborative shop environment. You will diagnose and repair vehicles in line with factory and industry standards, support preventative maintenance programs, and work closely with a team of mechanics to keep equipment operating safely and efficiently. Responsibilities • Perform minor and major repairs on trucks and buses in accordance with factory and industry standards., • Conduct regular preventative maintenance on service trucks, including inspections, tire rotations, and oil changes., • Run diagnostic tests on trucks to identify mechanical, electrical, and systems-related issues., • Collaborate with the repair team to diagnose problems, determine root causes, and plan effective repair strategies., • Maintain accurate records and documentation for all repairs and maintenance performed on vehicles., • Inspect and service cooling and analog systems to ensure proper operation and prevent failures., • Troubleshoot electrical issues and perform repairs on power generation and related equipment as needed., • Maintain an organized parts inventory and ensure the shop remains clean, safe, and well maintained., • Follow all safety procedures and guidelines while working with tools, equipment, and vehicles., • Communicate clearly with team members regarding vehicle status, repair timelines, and any issues identified.Essential Skills, • 1–3 years of experience working as a mechanic, diesel mechanic, auto mechanic, heavy equipment mechanic, or in a similar role., • Hands-on experience with diagnostic and repair work on engines., • Experience working with cooling systems and analog systems., • Ability to perform both minor and major repairs on trucks and buses., • Proficiency in conducting preventative maintenance, including inspections, tire rotations, and oil changes., • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues on vehicles and related equipment., • Familiarity with power generation equipment repair., • Strong diagnostic skills for identifying issues using tools and tests., • Capability to maintain accurate repair and maintenance records., • Eligibility and ability to obtain a SIDA badge for airport access., • Strong teamwork and communication skills to collaborate effectively with other mechanics.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Cummins engine experience preferred., • CDL license is a plus but not required., • Experience working in a shop environment with trucks, buses, and service vehicles., • Comfort working across different shifts, including first, second, or third shift schedules., • Willingness to participate in ongoing technical training and certifications, such as ASE., • Attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality standards.Why Work Here? Work Environment You will work in an indoor mechanic shop that can be cold in the winter and hot in the summer, so you should be comfortable working in varying temperatures. The shop environment is collaborative and laid back, with a culture where everyone helps each other and you will regularly work alongside lead mechanics. The role requires flexibility to work one of several shifts, which may be Monday–Friday, Tuesday–Saturday, or Sunday–Thursday, with shift options including 7:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m., 2:00 p.m.–10:30 p.m., or 10:00 p.m.–6:30 a.m. The dress code includes steel-toed boots and a company-provided uniform, ensuring safety and consistency in the shop. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Jamaica, NY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $36.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
