The overall goal of the program is to reduce the impact of victimization through advocacy, counseling and other support services. Responsibilities: The Therapeutic Case Planner provides both practical advocacy services and support to domestic violence survivors, their children and the person causing harm (separately). Job Description The Crime Victim Assistance Program (CVAP) is a joint program of Safe Horizon and the New York City Police Department (NYPD)that has assigned advocates to every police precinct and Police Service Area (PSA), 86, in total, citywide. Some precincts have two advocates assigned (a crime victim advocate and a domestic violence victim advocate) except for several identified precincts with one advocate. The precincts with one advocate are assigned to work with all victims of crime, including victims of domestic violence. Advocates literally sit side by side with police officers and NYPD civilian personnel and rarely have their own office space. As such, they develop skills where they address the lack of privacy with clients, while navigating a shared space with an outside entity- the NYPD. Advocates are required to report to the precinct/PSA each day for their shift. The Safe Horizon crime victim advocate/domestic violence advocate partners with the police personnel to provide outreach to victims who have filed police reports, or victims who walk into a precinct and seek assistance. The advocate will enter client information into the Case Management System in a timely fashion. The advocate will work with all victims of crime who need help from the NYPD with a specific focus for victims who filed a report as victims of violent felony offense as well as victims of domestic violence who have filed police reports on an as-needed basis. Given the volume in many precincts, advocates will assess high risk and focus on their on-going support for victims identified as such. Responsibilities: • Provide client centered, trauma-informed and culturally centered services for all victims of crime, as well as criminal justice advocacy and support in all phases of the criminal justice process., • Act as a point of contact for hate crime cases and gun violence cases within the precinct, collaborating closely with NYPD personnel, such as the Gun Violence Strategies Partnership (GVSP) and NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force, as well as city agencies including the NYC Human Rights Commission., • Provide client -centered, trauma-informed, culturally centered services specifically for victims of hate crimes and gun violence, as well as advocacy in the community and within various systems., • Share their expertise in criminal and civil legal systems with neighborhood members and community-based organizations (CBOs) as well as with the police., • Conduct roll-call trainings with the NYPD about the role of the advocate and speak at the NYPD Academy or other promotion events addressing topics, information and resources to help NYPD better serve the community., • Collaborate closely with police officers and detectives to ensure timely, coordinated and effective support for all victims of crime; establish and maintain strong working relationships with all precinct personnel to deliver quality services to all victims of crime., • Conduct community presentations and outreach; travel required for in-person Safe Horizon meetings and trainings as well as with community-based organizations and city agencies to develop and strengthen partnerships., • Work with police officers and detectives to identify families that are most at risk to ensure coordination of services for individuals and families., • Conduct visits to a victim’s home wearing a bullet-proof vest, accompanied by NYPD, to assist victims as needed., • Help clients with applying for compensation through the NYS Office of Victim Services (OVS) and provide advocacy with OVS as needed to ensure clients receive compensation in a timely manner., • Provide housing assistance for clients in need that includes accessing the Coordinated Assessment and Placement System (CAPS) and navigating various other systems to ensure clients can find and secure safe affordable housing., • Provide advocacy with various housing systems, including NYCHA and HPD to ensure clients can access safe, affordable housing., • Conduct client centered safety assessments and safety planning suited to the individual’s needs for safety, privacy, and sense of agency., • Provide information and referrals for victims for services such as shelter, mental health treatment, medical care, and other entitlements, as well as practical assistance such as transportation and food vouchers., • Connect and collaborate with all internal Safe Horizon programs and departments that can comprehensively support the client and case plan. Job Description Motor Assistance Vehicle Technician (MAVT)/ Motor Assistance Vehicle Operator (MAVO) SUMMARY: The Motor Assistance Vehicle Technician/Operator (MAVT/MAVO) is responsible for all aspects of patients’ care within the scope of certification. Essential Job Functions The Motor Assistance Vehicle Technician/Operator (MAVT/MAVO) is an integral part of the Virgo transportation team. In this position the MAVT/MAVO transports ambulatory patients to and from residences and or skilled nursing facilities to medical treatments and or appointments, and then return them. Some of the patients are able to ambulate to our vehicles while other must be moved in their wheelchairs, or are able to move on their electric scooters. No person is to ride the lift while standing, or on the electric scooter. The patients are placed in a wheelchair to go up on the lift, and they are moved inside and secured to the vehicle either on the bench seat or in the wheelchair. Should there be an aide or family member accompanying the patient, they must be secured in the vehicle as well. The MAVT/MAVO must check to see if any belongings or paperwork must accompany the patient for the transport, and then ensure that it gets dropped off with the patient. For each trip the appropriate documentation must be filled out, and where required, obtain the necessary signatures from the patient and /or facility. In the event monies are to be collected at time of service, a receipt is to be filled out and a copy given to the patient, or the person accompanying the patient. The MAVT/MAVO must be capable of good oral communications as for every leg of the trip dispatch must be communicated with, as to alert them to the status of the transport. In addition should any incident occur dispatch must be notified in a timely manner. The vehicle being used for any particular shift must be checked both prior and post usage for mechanical operations, fluids, and general cleanliness. The MAVT/MAVO must be able to utilize maps in order to locate facilities or residences that they are not aware of, with the assistance of dispatch. At the conclusion of the MAVT’s/MAVO's shift they must turn in the appropriate paperwork, and monies collected. Job Description The Crime Victim Assistance Program (CVAP) is a joint program of Safe Horizon and the New York City Police Department (NYPD)that has assigned advocates to every police precinct and Police Service Area (PSA), 86, in total, citywide. Some precincts have two advocates assigned (a crime victim advocate and a domestic violence victim advocate) except for several identified precincts with one advocate. The precincts with one advocate are assigned to work with all victims of crime, including victims of domestic violence. Advocates literally sit side by side with police officers and NYPD civilian personnel and rarely have their own office space. As such, they develop skills where they address the lack of privacy with clients, while navigating a shared space with an outside entity- the NYPD. Advocates are required to report to the precinct/PSA each day for their shift. The Safe Horizon crime victim advocate/domestic violence advocate partners with the police personnel to provide outreach to victims who have filed police reports, or victims who walk into a precinct and seek assistance. The advocate will enter client information into the Case Management System in a timely fashion. The advocate will work with all victims of crime who need help from the NYPD with a specific focus for victims who filed a report as victims of violent felony offense as well as victims of domestic violence who have filed police reports on an as-needed basis. Given the volume in many precincts, advocates will assess high risk and focus on their on-going support for victims identified as such. CHASI provides outreach, education, prevention, and direct support services for populations most affected by health disparities – people with low or no income, low-income people with chronic illnesses, people with criminal justice involvement, people who use drugs, domestic violence survivors, people of color, and the LGBTQ community. POSITION SUMMARY: The Domestic Violence & Trauma Services Program offers a comprehensive suite of services to survivors of domestic violence with enhanced focus on education and linkage to health & wellness through both individual and group counseling supportive services. CHASI works in collaboration with the Staten Island Family Justice Center to expand reach and capacity. Domestic violence and trauma services are co-located. Services are provided at two different locations, 26 Bay Street Site and the Staten Island Family Justice Center (FJC). The Intensive Case Manager will manage a high-risk caseload with a specific focus on working with complex, intersectional cases of domestic and gender-based violence including, but not limited to, family violence, elder abuse, human trafficking, and sexual violence. The Intensive Case Manager will navigate clients through the many complex systems called into action in service plans, such as behavioral health services, medical services, criminal justice, family court, and child protective services. The Intensive Case Manager will be a strong advocate who can provide ongoing support to clients with the police, prosecutors, housing, shelters, schools, public assistance, and other service providers. The Intensive Case Manager will provide on-going and enhanced follow-up with clients to ensure that clients are accessing and successfully connecting with the array of supportive services available at the FJC and through off site partnerships and linkages, creating positive relationships with on and off-site partners. Job Description The Crime Victim Assistance Program (CVAP) is a joint program of Safe Horizon and the New York City Police Department (NYPD)that has assigned advocates to every police precinct and Police Service Area (PSA), 86, in total, citywide. Some precincts have two advocates assigned (a crime victim advocate and a domestic violence victim advocate) except for several identified precincts with one advocate. The precincts with one advocate are assigned to work with all victims of crime, including victims of domestic violence. Advocates literally sit side by side with police officers and NYPD civilian personnel and rarely have their own office space. As such, they develop skills where they address the lack of privacy with clients, while navigating a shared space with an outside entity- the NYPD. Advocates are required to report to the precinct/PSA each day for their shift. The Safe Horizon crime victim advocate/domestic violence advocate partners with the police personnel to provide outreach to victims who have filed police reports, or victims who walk into a precinct and seek assistance. The advocate will enter client information into the Case Management System in a timely fashion. The advocate will work with all victims of crime who need help from the NYPD with a specific focus for victims who filed a report as victims of violent felony offense as well as victims of domestic violence who have filed police reports on an as-needed basis. Given the volume in many precincts, advocates will assess high risk and focus on their on-going support for victims identified as such. Job Description Safe Horizon’s Senior DV Victim Advocate (SVD) works within the SVD of NYPD. The advocate partners with police personnel to provide a coordinated, victim-centered approach to teen and adult victims of sexual assault to reduce trauma and improve the quality of services victims receive. Youth Enrichment Services (YES) engages school-aged youth between 12 and 21 years old in programming and supportive services that change the culture around violence and encourage positive youth development. YES staff actively recruit and engage youth who are vulnerable to system involvement and may be at risk for interpersonal violence or who have experienced community violence. Position: Outreach Worker Reports To: Assistant Program Director Location: 2021 Bergen St, Brooklyn, NY 11233 What The Outreach Worker Does: • Facilitate structured sessions during the school year, providing workshops, group discussions, or mentorship activities focused on topics such as conflict resolution, violence prevention, and positive youth development., • Work closely with safety staff to identify and engage at-risk youth., • Serve as a visible, approachable presence during school hours to build relationships with students., • Detect, interrupt, and mediate conflicts involving students both inside and outside the school., • Respond to crisis situations promptly, deescalating conflicts and preventing violence through intervention and mentorship., • Collaborate with school personnel and local law enforcement to address incidents and identify recurring "hot spots" for potential conflicts., • Provide safe passage for students at least twice weekly (four times weekly for campus schools), ensuring a visible and supportive presence along common routes to public transportation and other high-risk areas., • Assist in identifying and addressing conflicts that arise during dismissal or early after-school hours., • Actively recruit high-risk youth into the program, providing ongoing support to address their needs and challenges., • Establish trust-based relationships with participants, offering guidance and encouragement to help them navigate personal and academic challenges., • Mentor participants on prosocial behaviors, life skills, and conflict resolution., • Support marketing efforts, including distributing program materials to the school and surrounding community., • Document participant interactions, outreach efforts, and mediation activities, maintaining accurate and confidential records., • Participate in regular team meetings and required training sessions to stay informed of program updates and best practices., • Support program events and activities, providing on-the-ground assistance and mentorship to participants., • Maintain open communication with the Lead Mediation Specialist and staff to ensure effective service delivery and perform other duties as assigned by the Lead Mediation Specialist or Program Director., • Other duties as assigned.
