Deep Detection design and manufacture photon counting X-ray detectors for a global client base to enhance detection outcomes across the industrial inspection and sorting sectors. Our business specialities include microelectronics design, photon counting detectors, data processing and custom deep learning. Together, these capabilities allow us to develop cutting edge products to transform the capabilities of clients inspection systems. Role Description This is a specialist role in a deeply technical field which bridges the performance and characterisation of the latest generation of X-ray detectors to design for manufacturing. The System Engineer works alongside colleagues from electrical, mechanical and software engineering to develop prototype systems that meet the lead user requirements and are suitable for scale manufacturing. The role is based on site at the company headquarters and requires some travel to research facilities. Responsibilities • Characterisation of individual system elements including high-Z semiconductor detectors, • Characterisation of complete devices comprising 1-D and 2-D sensor arrays, • Optimise system parameters for performance across different industrial applications, • Experimental design, statistical measurement and data analysis, • Collaboration with technology teams to refine pixelated readout parameters, • Collaboration with product teams to design for manufacture Skills - Essential • PhD in Physics, Electrical Eng, Detector Science or Radiation Instruments, • Data science skills for efficient analysis of large data sets using Python and similar tools, • Deep knowledge of modern photon counting and semi-conductor based detectors, • Track record of development of X-ray detector systems or sub-systems, • Demonstrable systems thinking, bridging theory to scaleable solutions, • Excellent communication to both technical and non-technical audiences Skills - Beneficial • Experience in DFM and scale up, • 3+ years experience of industrial systems development, • Familiarity with simulation tools for X-ray detector characterisation, • Experience with high-Z detector parameters and characterisation requirements, • Knowledge of material decomposition methods using multi-spectral X-ray, • Image reconstruction from multiple projections (tomography), • Knowledge of industrial safety and compliance standards Start Date: from January 2026 Location: Cerdanyola del Vallès (Barcelona) / On-Site Role Type: Full Time Languages: English (required), Spanish #Radiography #Xray #CT #Tomography #Physics #Detectors #PhotonCounting #MaterialDecomposition #Multi-energy
