JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Catering Manager Grade: Grade F: PT 10 – 14 Location: SEN School Responsible to: Chef / Lecturer Purpose of Job To support the delivery of a high-quality catering service within a specialist SEN setting, ensuring meals meet diverse dietary and sensory needs. The role requires a caring, patient and nurturing approach, using the kitchen as a positive environment to support students’ development, confidence and independence. The Catering Manager will also lead and develop catering assistants, promoting a collaborative and supportive team culture. Key Responsibilities Catering Operations • Lead the day-to-day running of the kitchen, supervising and supporting staff, • Deputise for the Chef/Lecturer when required, • Prepare and serve meals to a high standard, ensuring allergen compliance, • Maintain full compliance with food safety, HACCP, COSHH and health & safety, • Ensure a safe, calm and structured kitchen environment, • Carry out statutory checks and maintain records, • Manage stock ordering, control and rotation, • Promote uptake of school meals Supporting Students • Support students in work experience and practical kitchen activities, • Provide patient, encouraging and individualised support, • Adapt communication to meet a range of SEND needs, • Create a positive, nurturing learning environment, • Act as a role model, promoting confidence, independence and teamwork Team Development • Support, guide and develop catering assistants, • Encourage a supportive, inclusive and respectful team culture, • Provide on-the-job training and mentorship Wider School Contribution • Support school events and catering activities, • Work with colleagues to develop menus for specific dietary and sensory needs, • Promote healthy eating and wellbeing initiatives, • Contribute to breakfast provision and enrichment activities SEND Approach • Demonstrate understanding of SEND and a compassionate, flexible approach, • Build positive relationships with students, • Be committed to ongoing training and development in SEND practice General Responsibilities • Participate in training, meetings and appraisal, • Maintain strong communication with staff and stakeholders, • Follow safeguarding, equality, health & safety and confidentiality policies, • Act as a positive role model at all times Values • Treat all students with respect, patience and care, • Promote inclusion and high expectations for all, • Work collaboratively and contribute to a culture of kindness and professionalism Safeguarding This role is subject to safeguarding checks.
