  Job Description Who We Are: CAMBA is a community of staff, volunteers, clients, donors, neighbors and partners who work together to build an inclusive New York City, where all children and adults have access to the resources and supports they need to thrive. We take a comprehensive approach by offering more than 180 integrated programs in: Education & Youth Development, Family Support, Job Training & Employment Support Services, Health, Housing, and Legal Services. We reach more than 72,000 individuals and families each year at our 100 locations, including 10,000 youth. CAMBA serves a diverse cross section of New Yorkers from new mothers in Brownsville to job seekers in the Rockaways. More than half of our clients are immigrants and refugees from around the globe. Over 85% of our families live in poverty, reflecting the challenges faced by nearly 1.7 million New Yorkers today. CAMBA’s Cure Violence Program works with 16 – 24 year old at risk youths who are or may have potentially been involved in street violence, community residents, businesses and community-based organizations to implement Cure Violence: The Campaign to Stop the Shooting. Cure Violence is a public health strategy to reduce and prevent shootings and killings. This program will focus on a defined area identified as a “hot spot” in Brownsville, Brooklyn for shooting violence within the 73rd Precinct. The program works to prevent gun violence by: 1) mediating conflicts that may end in gun violence, 2) changing the thinking of individuals who are most at risk of being victims or perpetrators of violence, and 3) working closely with a broad coalition of local partners to promote a visible community-wide message that shooting is unacceptable behavior. Position: Outreach Worker Reports To: Assistant Program Manager Location: 444 Thomas Boyland Street, Brooklyn, NY 11212 What The Outreach Worker Does: • Reach out and market the program to the community via street outreach in order to recruit clients., • Assist in organizing responses to all shootings that occur in the targeted catchment area within 72 hours of receipt of notice of the shooting or killing., • Prepare marketing materials and market the program to community., • Attend and help facilitate social/peer support events (i.e., community events and shooting response meetings, etc)., • Review all documentation establishing clients' eligibility for program and make file copies., • Assist clients in completing all CAMBA intake applications and forms., • Create and maintain client files., • Conduct initial intake or assessment of clients and clients' families and/or periodic reassessments., • Follow-up with clients and with referral organizations regarding client contact and progress with referral organization., • Work with clients to break through barriers to client goals and to assist clients in advocating for themselves and in moving toward self-sufficiency., • Recommend and implement strategies to persuade clients to participate more fully in this process., • Act as client liaison/client advocate with outside organizations regarding such matters as education, healthcare, housing, etc., • Monitor clients' progress toward their goals (dates achieved) via regularly scheduled telephone contact and/or face-to-face home and office visits, and document via progress notes., • Recommend closing of cases in which clients have: (a) achieved primary goals and have maintained stability for a period of months; or, (b) have not demonstrated a willingness to participate in the process (lost-to-service); or, (c) have become ineligible for services (e.g. moved out of area)., • Provide all required information for weekly/monthly/quarterly/annual reports., • May conduct client’s and/or families’ periodic re-assessments., • May schedule appointments for client with referral organizations., • May escort clients to appointments (educational, medical, social service, etc.)., • May assist clients in completing applications for benefits and entitlements.   Job Description Essential Job Functions: • Learn and integrate a trauma-informed, client-centered approach, using an anti-oppressive lens, into your work with clients., • Conducts client centered safety assessment and risk management planning. Provides crisis intervention and direct assistance to victims of crime and abuse; develop creative solutions reflecting clients’ unique needs in collaboration with client. • Advocates for clients for public entitlements with systems and other agencies, where necessary, such as obtaining orders of protection, help with hospital/medical related needs, Office of Victims Services compensation, and relocation assistance., • Provides information and referrals and facilitates linkages for clients for services such as shelters, mental health treatment, public assistance and other entitlements based on assessment and clients’ needs., • Assesses for and provides emergency practical assistance for clients including transportation, food vouchers, financial assistance and lock replacement in accordance with agency policy., • Engages in regular supervision meetings with supervisors to review cases, reflect on client interaction and build skills., • Maintains thorough and accurate case records and statistics in web-based case management system., • Collects client data, tests new interventions and tracks outcome. Participates in staff meetings, individual and group supervision, community meetings and relevant trainings and seminars. • Conducts educational presentations and trainings and participates in outreach events for community groups about intimate partner and family violence, victim assistance resources and other related topics., • Works collaboratively with other Safe Horizon programs to facilitate linkages for clients. Various other duties to be determined by supervisor. Interacts with: • Safe Horizon staff., • District Attorney’s Office., • NYPD., • Office of Victim Services., • ACS., • NYCHA and Section 8 staff., • Other social service providers. Knowledge and Skills: Required: • Must be sensitive towards and understanding of victimization., • Must be able to demonstrate respect, compassion and a non-judgmental approach to victims of crime and abuse., • Must be willing to participate in a learning community., • Must be organized, detail oriented and solution focused., • Must demonstrate the ability to work independently and be resourceful., • Must demonstrate leadership skills (acts as a “go-to” person for colleagues, takes initiative; suggests ways to make processes work better)., • Must be a team player., • Possess strong communication and organizational skills., • Excellent interpersonal skills., • Able to work under pressure in a calm and reassuring manner. Education: • A bachelor’s degree in a related field (Social Work, Psychology, Human Services etc.) or equivalent experience is preferred. Experience: • At least one year of prior direct service experience in a social service setting is required. Experience working with survivors of intimate partner and family violence and other victims of crime preferred. • Bilingual (English/Spanish, French, Chinese, Arabic, Korean) preferred.
