Job DescriptionDescription: We are seeking a dependable, hands-on Field IT Technician based in the Long Island area to support a growing multi-site medical practice throughout Long Island and the greater Tri-State region (NY, NJ, CT). This role is primarily focused on onsite field support across our medical offices—maintaining, repairing, upgrading, and improving the physical technology environments at each location. Our offices currently require significant hands-on IT attention, including replacing aging computers, upgrading existing PCs, cleaning up infrastructure, organizing wiring, improving network closets, repairing printers, and ensuring each site operates efficiently and reliably. While our centralized help desk team handles most remote phone support, this position will assist with overflow help desk issues when needed. However, the primary responsibility is being out in the field, visiting offices, assessing needs, fixing problems, and proactively improving each location’s technology setup. The majority of the job involves traveling to locations, repairing equipment, upgrading aging systems, organizing infrastructure, and ensuring every office stays operational and efficient. Key Responsibilities Field Technical Support (Primary Focus) • Travel between office locations to assess, troubleshoot, repair, and improve IT systems onsite., • Diagnose and repair desktop computers, laptops, workstations, printers, scanners, and peripheral devices., • Upgrade aging PCs with replacement components including RAM, SSDs, hard drives, power supplies, and other hardware., • Rebuild and repurpose older computers for continued operational use when appropriate., • Deploy new workstations for front desk, clinical staff, providers, and administrative teams., • Install and configure operating systems, drivers, software applications, and updates., • Troubleshoot hardware failures, connectivity issues, and physical device malfunctions., • Maintain printers, multifunction devices, label printers, scanners, and signature pads. Infrastructure & Cabling • Run, terminate, label, and test Ethernet cabling (Cat5e/Cat6)., • Clean up poorly organized network closets, server rooms, and workstation cabling., • Replace unmanaged wiring with clean, labeled, and structured cabling., • Install switches, firewalls, patch panels, racks, and cable management systems., • Improve office technology layouts for reliability, cleanliness, and scalability. Office Improvement & Standardization • Assist in Identifying offices in need of PC replacements, upgrades, or infrastructure repairs., • Standardize workstation builds and equipment setups across locations., • Assist with office openings, expansions, moves, and technology refresh projects., • Proactively recommend improvements to outdated systems and environments., • Help ensure every office remains operational, efficient, and ready to support patient care. Help Desk Overflow Support (Secondary) • Assist centralized help desk team with escalated or overflow technical issues., • Provide onsite follow-up for tickets requiring physical intervention., • Support software troubleshooting when remote teams need field assistance., • Communicate findings back to IT leadership and support staff. Documentation & Communication • Record work completed, upgrades performed, repairs made, and issues identified., • Maintain inventory of parts, replacement equipment, and tools., • Provide professional support to physicians, office managers, clinical staff, and administrative teams. Required Qualifications • Must reside in or near Long Island, NY., • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record., • Comfortable with extensive daily driving between office locations., • Proven experience with hands-on computer repair and hardware upgrades., • Experience rebuilding, upgrading, or repurposing desktop PCs., • Strong troubleshooting skills for computers, printers, and peripherals., • Experience with network cabling and physical IT infrastructure., • Basic networking knowledge including switches, routers, patch panels, and TCP/IP connectivity troubleshooting., • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision., • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills. Physical Requirements • Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 50+ pounds., • Comfortable working under desks, in ceilings, in network closets, and tight spaces., • Ability to stand, kneel, bend, climb ladders, and perform physical installation work., • Comfortable using hand tools and installation equipment.
