SEND Specialist Teacher \n\nLocation: Halifax (Hybrid working)\n Contract: Initial 3 months (potential extension)\n Hours: 37 hours per week (Full-time equivalent, term-time only)\n Day Rate (Umbrella): £275 umbrella per day (£200 PAYE per day)\n Start Date: ASAP\n\n Job Overview \n\nWe are recruiting a Qualified Teacher of Children and Young People with Vision Impairments (QTVI) to join a specialist SEND Inclusion Service supporting children and young people (CYP) with complex Special Educational Needs and Disabilities across Halifax.\n\n This is a hybrid role, combining school-based work, remote working, and home-based planning in line with caseload demands.\n\n You will play a key role in improving educational outcomes for CYP with vision impairment and multi-sensory impairment (MSI), while supporting schools to develop inclusive, evidence-based practice.\n\n Key Responsibilities\nUndertake specialist assessments of CYP with SEND/VI/MSI needs\nDeliver specialist teaching and interventions to improve outcomes\nAdvise, coach, and train teachers and school staff on inclusive practice\nSupport schools to implement adaptive curriculum and pedagogy\nContribute to Education, Health and Care (EHC) assessments and reviews\nProvide ongoing monitoring, coaching, and quality assurance of SEND provision\nDevelop training resources and deliver CPD for school staff\nWork collaboratively with schools, families, and multi-agency professionals\nSupport and line manage up to 3 SEND Specialist Outreach Workers\nContribute to wider SEND strategy and service developmentRequirements\n\nQualified Teacher Status (QTS)\nMandatory post-graduate qualification in Vision Impairment (QTVI)\nExperience working with children and young people with SEND (particularly VI/MSI)\nStrong knowledge of SEND legislation (Children and Families Act 2014, SEND Code of Practice 2015, Equality Act 2010)\nExperience using SEND assessment tools and frameworks\nAbility to deliver training, coaching, and specialist teaching\nExcellent communication, report writing, and interpersonal skills\nExperience working collaboratively with families, schools, and professionals\nStrong ICT skills and record-keeping ability\nExperience supporting or supervising staff (desirable but not essential)\nSafeguarding This role is subject to an Enhanced DBS check including Children’s Barred List clearance.\n\n The postholder will be committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults at all times
