A leading clean energy technology company is hiring a Mechanical Design Engineer to support the development of next-generation fuel processing and fuel cell generator systems. If you enjoy solving complex mechanical packaging challenges, designing industrial plant equipment, and taking products from concept through to build and production, this is a hands-on engineering role with real-world impact. Mechanical Design Engineer Permanent, Full-time £ Competitive + Benefits Cranleigh, Surrey Mechanical Design Engineer Responsibilities: • Develop innovative mechanical and structural design solutions for fuel-processing plant and fuel cell generator systems., • Create 3D CAD models and detailed 2D drawings for welded parts, assemblies, skids, piping and plant equipment., • Support product development from concept through prototyping, testing and production., • Undertake FEA, manual stress analysis and hand calculations to validate designs., • Work from P&IDs to design skids, plant layouts, piping, tubing and supporting frameworks., • Lead and contribute to internal peer reviews and formal design reviews with stakeholders., • Collaborate closely with manufacturing, electrical, quality and procurement teams to ensure functional, cost and quality requirements are met., • Produce supporting documentation including BOMs, work instructions and technical reports., • Support build and prototyping activities, resolving design issues during assembly where required., • Apply risk analysis and prevention tools such as DFA/DFM, HAZOP, HAZID, DFMEA and root cause analysis. Mechanical Design Engineer Requirements: • Degree qualified (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering or scientific discipline., • At least 3 years’ industry experience in mechanical design within industrial, process, automotive, aerospace, marine or related sectors., • High proficiency in 3D CAD tools (preferably SolidWorks) and PLM systems., • Strong understanding of GD&T, engineering standards and manufacturing processes., • Ability to perform hand calculations and stress analysis to support design decisions., • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams. Desirable: • Experience designing welded fabrications, skids, piping and industrial plant equipment., • Knowledge of materials selection, welding and fabrication techniques., • Experience with risk analysis methodologies (HAZOP, DFMEA, DFA/DFM)., • Working towards Chartered status or CSWP / CSWE certification.
