Role Overview We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Housing Disrepair File Handler to join our team. The successful candidate will manage a caseload of housing disrepair matters and play a key role in delivering efficient and high-quality services to our clients. Depending on business needs and the candidate’s experience, this position may be offered within either our Pre-Litigation or Litigation teams. Full training and support will be provided where appropriate. Key Responsibilities Pre-Litigation • Manage a caseload of housing disrepair claims from initial instruction through to settlement., • Review client instructions and supporting evidence., • Liaise with clients, housing associations, local authorities, surveyors, and other third parties., • Obtain and assess relevant documentation, including tenancy records, repair reports, and medical evidence., • Prepare and submit Letters of Claim and other pre-action correspondence., • Negotiate settlements and resolve claims efficiently., • Ensure compliance with relevant protocols, procedures, and regulatory requirements. Litigation • Manage a caseload of litigated housing disrepair matters., • Draft and prepare court documents, witness statements, and pleadings., • Monitor court deadlines and ensure compliance with procedural requirements., • Liaise with clients, counsel, experts, defendants, and the courts., • Review evidence and assist in case strategy and progression., • Prepare cases for hearings, settlement discussions, and trial where necessary., • Maintain accurate case records and management information. General Duties • Deliver excellent client care and maintain regular communication with clients., • Ensure files are progressed efficiently in line with service level agreements., • Maintain accurate and up-to-date case management records., • Achieve individual and team performance targets., • Identify opportunities to improve processes and client outcomes., • Work collaboratively with colleagues across the department. Skills and Experience Essential: • Previous experience handling legal files or claims in a legal, insurance, or claims environment preferred, • Strong organisational and time-management skills., • Excellent written and verbal communication skills., • Ability to manage a busy caseload and prioritise effectively., • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability., • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and case management systems. Desirable: • Experience handling housing disrepair claims., • Knowledge of the Pre-Action Protocol for Housing Conditions Claims., • Experience working within a litigation environment., • Understanding of civil procedure and court processes.
