Would you like to join a centre of excellence in rural and remote healthcare? Please note that you must be on the Specialist Register to be eligible. The post holder will join a committed and experienced team and will be expected to contribute to a 24/7 urology emergency rota, serving as surgeon‑of‑the‑week on a 1 in 5 week basis at the Cumberland Infirmary site. Elective activities are cancelled during the emergency week and the service is supported by a resident doctor tier. Successful candidates will be expected to be trained and competent in the elective and emergency management of urological complications, work closely with community bladder teams, the Surgical Same Day Emergency Care department, and other services within NCIC. As a senior employee, the post holder will cooperate with medical, clinical and managerial colleagues to deliver high quality care for patients within the Trust. Key responsibilities include: • Maintaining a 24/7 urology emergency rota as part of the surgeon‑of‑the‑week team., • Providing elective and emergency urological management., • Collaborating with community bladder teams, Surgical Same Day Emergency Care, and other services., • Supporting junior medical staff, trainees and students., • Participating in clinical audit and quality improvement initiatives., • Driving change and innovation in urology practice., • Valid Full Registration with the General Medical Council., • Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons or equivalent., • Relevant CCT, CESR or equivalent., • On the Specialist Register for the above or within 6 months of being admitted to the Register by the AAC date., • Other relevant medical and non‑medical training or degree., • MD or PhD degree., • Expert opinion on clinical specialist problems in Urology Surgery., • Wide‑based knowledge and opinion on Urology surgical conditions., • Independent responsibility for urology surgical patients., • Proof of research projects., • High level of clinical experience and competence in the management of common urological surgical conditions., • Adequate surgical experience of index urology procedures., • Experience of training and supervising junior medical staff and students., • Logbook demonstrating independent urology experience and practice., • Participation in clinical audit., • Ability to lead a surgical team., • Commitment to continuing medical education, appraisal and clinical governance., • Implementation of change in clinical practice., • Undergraduate and postgraduate teaching experience., • Critical appraisal of research and application to clinical problems., • Supervision of junior staff undertaking research projects., • Formal teaching experience at undergraduate or postgraduate level., • Publications in peer‑reviewed journals., • Teamwork in a multi‑disciplinary environment., • Excellent communication skills with patients, colleagues and managers., • Enquiring and critical approach to work., • Efficient workload organisation., • Empathy for patients., • Ability to cope well in stressful situations., • Enthusiastic, initiative‑driven., • Willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities at local, regional and national levels., • Special interest to complement existing post‑holders., • Ability to travel to fulfil requirements of the post with a flexible approach to working.
