Job Description Job Title: Anti-Violence Services Advocate Organization: In Our Own Voices, Inc. (IOOV) Location: Albany, NY Employment Type: Full-Time Reports To: Director of Anti-Violence Services Position Overview Are you passionate about supporting LGBTQ+ individuals impacted by domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking? In Our Own Voices, Inc. (IOOV) is seeking a dedicated Anti-Violence Services Advocate to provide compassionate, culturally responsive crisis intervention and support services to LGBTQ+ survivors—especially people of color. This role combines frontline advocacy, systems navigation, and community empowerment to help clients stabilize and reclaim their safety, autonomy, and dignity. Key Responsibilities Crisis Response & Direct Support * Provide immediate crisis intervention and hotline support. * Offer trauma-informed counseling and safety planning. * Assist clients in accessing and maintaining emergency or long-term housing. * Accompany and advocate for survivors at court, hospitals, and law enforcement agencies. Client Advocacy & Resource Navigation * Deliver information and referrals for legal services, healthcare, financial assistance, and mental health resources. * Work with survivors to identify short- and long-term goals and connect them to culturally competent services. Program Coordination & Grant Compliance * Ensure all services align with program goals and grant objectives. * Maintain accurate and timely client documentation, case notes, and referral tracking. * Support data entry and contribute to reports and evaluation efforts. Training & Community Engagement * Facilitate healing support groups and peer-led workshops for LGBTQ+ survivors. * Provide training and technical assistance to mainstream service providers to improve their cultural responsiveness. * Participate in task forces, coalitions, and community forums addressing gender-based violence and LGBTQ+ rights. Mission Alignment & Collaboration * Work closely with other IOOV program staff to deliver wraparound, client-centered services. * Advocate for racial, gender, and economic justice across all facets of service delivery and policy engagement. Qualifications Required * Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Public Health, or related field (MSW a plus); or equivalent experience. * At least 1–2 years of paid experience in advocacy, case management, or crisis intervention—particularly with LGBTQ+ and BIPOC communities. * Direct experience working with survivors of domestic and/or sexual violence. * Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. * Familiarity with social service systems, including housing, legal advocacy, and safety planning. * Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and maintain professional boundaries. * Must have valid NYS driver’s license and access to reliable transportation. Preferred * Bilingual (Spanish/English). * Experience facilitating support groups or workshops. * Knowledge of trauma-informed care, harm reduction, and LGBTQ+-affirming practices.
