Job DescriptionDescription: Assistant Director of Youth Sports FLSA Status: Exempt Reports to: Director of Day Camp and Youth Sports Revision Date: 12/25 Leadership Level: Team Leader Primary Function/Department: Youth Sports POSITION SUMMARY: This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility, including the development and implementation of new programs. Under the direction of the Director of Day Camp and Youth Sports, the Assistant Director of Youth Sports is responsible for supporting the Youth Sports Department, with a primary focus on basketball. Major responsibilities include leading and growing a dynamic youth basketball program through program development, quality assurance, coach leadership, league management, camp leadership, and safety. The position also supports strategic planning, relationship building, fundraising, day camp operations, special events, and more. The Assistant Director of Youth Sports assists with hiring and supervising employees in youth sports programs, training staff and volunteers, evaluating program effectiveness, managing and monitoring budgets, and resolving program-related matters. This role upholds the YMCA core values and works collaboratively with other departments to achieve the Association’s goals. Requirements: ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: · Lead and grow the youth basketball program and support the overall Youth Sports Department, with responsibilities including program development and standards, quality assurance, coach hiring and leadership, league and camp management, safety, budget oversight, staff leadership, and parent communications. · Exceptional organizational skills with an ability to mange scheduling platforms, communication platforms, and social media · Strong collaboration skills with the ability to build programs and schedules 6+ months prior to implementation · Directly supervise coaches, referees, and volunteers within basketball and youth sports programs, as delegated by the Director. · Create and manage the Metro YMCA Basketball League, including program structure, season scheduling, facility coordination, registrations, communications, referee scheduling, marketing, outreach, and supporting South Mountain YMCA travel teams. · Ensure programs and services meet community needs by supervising existing activities, establishing new ones, expanding programs as needed, and assisting with marketing and distribution of program information. · Implement and oversee all aspects of basketball camp, support vacation camps, and assist with the Sports Director Day Camp as needed. · Assure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including ADA accommodations, and ensure YMCA program standards and safety procedures are followed. · Recruit, hire, onboard, and develop diverse staff and volunteer teams; maintain staff schedules and evaluate performance. · Organize and manage teams, practice and game schedules, training and scheduling of sports officials and coaches, development and distribution of rules and handbooks, purchasing and distribution of uniforms and awards, team photographs, season parties, events, and sports clinics. · Model relationship-building skills in all interactions; develop and maintain collaborative relationships with staff, parents, caregivers, and community organizations; maintain regular, clear, and concise communication. · Organize or participate in YMCA activities, such as committees, special events, and fundraising. · Operate summer youth camp(s). · Support the Director in strategic planning, program evaluation, and continuous improvement initiatives. · Perform other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: · Bachelor’s Degree in physical education, sport management, human services, social services, recreation, or equivalent preferred. · 2+ years related experience with managing basketball programs, basketball program development & marketing · 4+ years in coaching elementary school or middle school basketball · Budgeting skills preferred · Strong experience in community basketball programming preferred · Ability to assist in the direction of multi-site programs through supervision of staff, public relations, program development and fund-raising. · Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal. · Strong time management and organizational skills. · Knowledge of quality program development and coordination of activities. · Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations. · Completion of YMCA Team Leader certification within 3 years. · Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community. · Ability to assume Director responsibilities as needed.
