Job Description TITLE: Faculty Clinician (temporary adjunct) DEPARTMENT: Health Centers DIVISION: Academic Affairs STATUS: Exempt Note: As a member of our exempt work force there could be occasions when a commitment beyond the normal workweek may be required. General Description: Reporting to the Dean of Clinical Education/Assistant Dean of Clinical Education, the Faculty Clinician is responsible to supervise and work with clinical students to provide quality patient care and complete required documentation for both patient care and student education. The position is an appointment requiring service to the College divided among teaching, research and scholarly activity, and citizenship in a manner that promotes continuity and equality among faculty, staff and students. Organizational Relationships: • Responsible to the Dean of Clinical Education/Assistant Dean of Clinical Education., • Works closely with health center faculty, staff and students. General Responsibilities: The faculty consists of all individuals in the employ of Northeast holding academic rank and engaged in instructional, scholarly and professional, or academic service activities for the College. These activities include, but are not limited to: laboratory, classroom, online, and health center instruction; work of professional librarians; course and curriculum development; research; participation in student advising, enrollment management functions, College governance; and service to one’s profession. Specific Duties and Responsibilities: • Manage patient care within the approved policies and procedures of the Northeast health centers., • Develop and utilize relevant marketing to grow faculty practice expectations per the Faculty Handbook to support student learning., • Responsible for all patient health care decisions to include evaluation, management and recordkeeping., • Be a consultation resource for other faculty members., • Provide hands on mentoring and foster a critical thinking environment for student education., • Oversee student conduct, proficiency, professionalism and compliance with health center standards., • Oversee and issue quantitative and qualitative credits and provide feedback to students regularly., • Assist with clinical education activities (evaluations, orientation, remediations, OSCE, mentor meetings, etc.) as needed., • Engage students in a variety of clinical activities while ensuring appropriate continuity of patient care., • Participate in health center meetings as well as mandatory professional development activities., • Maintain clean and orderly patient treatment areas and report any equipment needing repair., • Participate on College committees and task forces as assigned., • Maintain active involvement with professional, national and state organizations important to clinical, educational, and administrative responsibilities., • Develop a professional development plan in conjunction with the Dean of Clinical Education/Assistant Dean of Clinical Education., • Other duties as assigned. Education Requirement: * Bachelor’s degree required with preference in Education, Psychology, or Social Work * At least 18.0 credit hours from an accredited college or university in the field of Child Development, Elementary Education, Physical Education, Recreation or a related field preferred Experience Requirement: * Minimum of three (3) years experience in urban education, youth development or community organizing with at least one (1) year of supervisory experience. * Minimum of one (1) year of experience working with youth & adolescents in New York City. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS * Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students for whom they are responsible. * Organize, lead, and promote interest in arts activities such as visual art, fashion, painting, drawing, photography & digital media. * Organize performance groups and direct their rehearsals. * Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate those objectives to students. * Ascertain and interpret group interests, evaluate equipment and facilities, and adapt activities to meet the student’s needs. * Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities. * Explain principles, techniques, and safety procedures to participants in the activities and demonstrate the use of materials and equipment. * Evaluate activities to determine if they are producing desired results. * Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' needs and interests. * Progressive development of student skills leading to a final project REQUIRED SKILLS * Must be knowledgeable and skilled in various Visual Arts and have prior experience successfully teaching and instructing youth. * Must be able to follow a curriculum * Must be responsible, reliable, and punctual! * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required. * May be required to walk up and down stairs. * May have to lift or move objects/materials as needed. * Work is performed mostly within a New York City Public School but may be required to interact with the community at-large during trips or events. QUALIFICATIONS * High School Diploma or Equivalent required; some college preferred * A minimum of one year of visual arts work-related skill, knowledge, or experience is required. * A minimum of one year of teaching/coaching experience is required. * Must have passion for New York Edge's mission and demonstrated interest in education and youth development. * Candidates qualified to lead instruction in more than one activity are also preferred. SUMMARY New York Edge is seeking passionate and enthusiastic people to fill the role of Basketball Specialist. Basketball Specialists should have knowledge and experience providing targeted, skill, and age-appropriate instruction, coaching, and mentorship to youth in New York Edge’s after-school camp program.
