Essential Job Summary:: Reporting to the Vice President of Rail Operations, the Operations Supervisor manages the assigned scope of responsibility within a line of business and/or at specific site within a market. Other minor duties may be assigned.: • Supervise daily terminal activities including truck flow, container lidding/unlidding, and transloading to railcars., • Enforce safety rules, operating procedures, and regulatory requirements., • Direct and support hourly employees., • Coordinate yard movements, equipment usage, and railcar loading/unloading., • Monitor workflow, productivity, and service performance., • Report operational issues, incidents, and performance metrics to site management. Overview: Reporting to the Site Manager, the Operations Manager manages the day-to-day operations of a single depot and establishes and maintains performance and productivity metrics and cost management processes. Other minor duties may be assigned. • Manages the day-to-day operations of the depot and provides daily support to supervisors in ensuring quality and budget performance., • Monitors budget and operating metrics while diagnosing and improving processes, procedures, and performance., • Executes necessary precautions to ensure safety and compliance with Company, OSHA, and other standards and regulations., • Ensures thorough root cause investigations for all injuries and incidents, following-up with consistent discipline and retraining., • Oversees personnel needs of the department including selecting, coaching, disciplining, and training employees and evaluating employee performance. Provides input into termination, compensation, and promotion decisions., • Formulates both short-term and long-term goals and action plans in conjunction with the Site Manager and/or Director of Operations., • Participates in regular P&L reviews to ensure that budgets are met; develops and implements programs for optimal equipment utilization, equipment maintenance, and labor and material costs., • Interacts with local city, municipal, and county agencies to ensure customer satisfaction, improve efficiency, renew contracts and negotiate new contracts; establishes IWS as a good corporate citizen and valued resource., • Works with functional groups to resolve employee relations and labor relations issues. Other minor duties may be assigned.: • Manages the day-to-day operations of the Short Haul business unit and provides daily support to route supervisors, dispatch, labor planning, productivity tracking, and safety metrics., • Supervise, train, and evaluate site personnel, including drivers, operations supervisors and dispatchers., • Develop and implement operational procedures to maximize efficiency, minimize costs, and increase productivity., • Executes necessary precautions to ensure safety and compliance with Company, OSHA, DOT, and other standards and regulations., • Ensures thorough root cause investigations for all injuries and incidents, following up with consistent discipline and retraining if necessary., • Oversees personnel needs of the business unit including selecting, coaching, disciplining, and training employees and evaluating employee performance. Provides input into termination, compensation, and promotion decisions adhering to CBA where applicable., • Communicates and collaborates effectively with other depot managers and maintenance managers to ensure operational goals are met., • Participates in regular P&L reviews to ensure that budgets are met; develops and implements programs for optimal equipment utilization, equipment maintenance, and labor and material costs., • Responsible for conducting monthly safety meetings/ training sessions., • Schedule regular defensive driving training sessions with safety team., • Ensures quarterly random drug screens are performed., • Performs fleet inspections (Fleet Walk).
