Job Description POSITION SUMMARY The Designer is an entry-level role responsible for supporting the design, development, and execution of high-quality print, digital, social and multimedia marketing materials that strengthen and extend the Newsday brand. This position aids consumer brand marketing efforts to drive awareness, engagement, and subscription growth across platforms in a fast-paced news media environment. Ideal for a motivated candidate with strong foundational skills and a keen eye for design, this role offers hands-on training and opportunities to grow under experienced leadership. RESPONSIBILITIES • Assist in conceptualizing and executing creative solutions that align with marketing strategies and brand objectives, from initial concepts through final production., • Support the design of print and digital marketing assets, including brand and editorial promotions, emails, flyers, brochures, presentations, social media creative, web elements, and event signage., • Collaborate with the Associate Creative Director, and cross-functional partners to contribute to advertising, marketing research, and brand initiatives., • Participate in meetings with internal clients and stakeholders to understand project goals, timelines, and creative requirements, and offer design input., • Help prepare and manage files for production, including text input, image sourcing, color correction, and proofreading., • Incorporate revisions and refinements based on feedback while adhering to deadlines., • Assist in tracking projects through the full production lifecycle, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and on-time delivery., • Contribute to managing digital assets and maintaining organized storage and archiving systems. KNOWLEDGE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Fine Arts, Visual Communications, or a related field preferred (associate degree or equivalent professional coursework considered with exceptional portfolio)., • Portfolio showcasing marketing-focused design work (including competence in Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, web, and email design) is required., • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud, including InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop, with competence in web and email design principles., • Familiarity with Adobe Premiere, Adobe Firefly, Sailthru, Canva, and AI tools such as ChatGPT is a plus., • Strong design sensibility with a solid understanding of typography, layout, color theory, composition, and branding principles., • Ability to apply creative thinking and problem-solving to develop visually compelling, on-brand materials., • Excellent time-management skills with the ability to multitask, prioritize, and meet deadlines in a dynamic, fast-paced setting., • Awareness of current design, typography, and digital marketing trends., • Experience or coursework in preparing files for both print and digital platforms, with an understanding of production standards and processes., • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team., • Demonstrated talent, skills, and motivation to learn and adapt quickly in a news media environment. This is a hybrid position requiring 40 hours per week. Work from home on Mondays and Fridays; in-office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at our Melville, NY (11747) location., which may require additional in office days in accordance with the Company’s Hybrid & Remote Work Policy.
