The Lead Microgrid Developer will be responsible for the nationwide technical development and design of microgrid projects, including solar PV, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and distributed generation assets. This hybrid role combines customer engagement with advanced engineering expertise. Reporting to the VP of Engineering and Development, the Lead Microgrid Developer will collaborate with the sales team to identify customer needs, develop robust preliminary designs, and ensure technical accuracy throughout the design process by coordinating with external engineering consultants for detailed design and construction documentation. The successful candidate will own the technical scope of projects from concept through final design handoff, ensuring compliance with industry standards and customer requirements. Our Lead Microgrid Developer’s contributions to the team include: • Leading the development of microgrid designs by creating electrical one-lines, layouts, and system architecture for solar PV, BESS, and distributed generation assets., • Performing technical modeling and analysis using tools such as HOMER, Xendee, and AutoCAD to optimize system sizing and evaluate resiliency scenarios., • Collaborating with the sales team to engage customers, understand technical requirements, and translate those needs into viable microgrid solutions., • Coordinating with utilities and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) to navigate interconnection requirements, permitting processes, and compliance with applicable codes and standards., • Preparing professional-quality technical proposals that include conceptual designs, technical narratives, and cost estimates., • Conducting on-site evaluations to assess electrical, structural, and environmental suitability for microgrid installations., • Collaborating with internal teams, including engineering, project management, and construction, to ensure seamless project development and execution. The core components of success are (i.e. must haves): • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related field., • 6+ years of experience in in power systems engineering, distributed energy resources (DER) integration, or microgrid design., • Proven track record of developing distributed energy resource (DER) projects, including solar PV, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and backup generation, from concept through final design handoff., • Strong background in electrical engineering with experience creating electrical one-lines, system layouts, and preliminary design packages for complex energy systems., • Demonstrated ability to navigate utility interconnection processes, including application preparation, technical review, and compliance with IEEE 1547, UL9540, NEC, and other relevant standards., • Hands-on experience conducting site assessments to evaluate electrical infrastructure, structural conditions, and environmental factors for microgrid feasibility., • Familiarity with incentive programs, rate structures, and financial modeling for renewable energy and storage projects, including the ability to optimize system design for economic performance., • Experience managing external engineering consultants and reviewing detailed design deliverables for accuracy, compliance, and constructability., • Proficiency in using advanced modeling and design tools such as HOMER, Xendee, and AutoCAD for system optimization and performance analysis., • History of collaborating with cross-functional teams—including sales, project management, and construction—to ensure technical integrity and successful project execution., • Active Driver’s License The following are a definite plus, so if you’ve got it be sure to tell us! • NABCEP Certification or other DER/Microgrid Certification Travel requirements are approximately 4 to 6 days per month as needed for site walks. This would include overnight stays to conduct on-site services. Physical location residing “at home” or Centrica office-based location near Loomis, CA, Orange, CA, Dallas, TX or Malta, NY. The US base salary range for this full-time position is $130,000 - $165,000. + bonus + benefits. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
