Job DescriptionJob Title: Machine Operator Job Description The Machine Operator ensures that production machinery runs safely, efficiently, and reliably while consistently producing high‑quality products. This role leads activities on the production line, supports and trains other line employees, and performs machine setup, operation, troubleshooting, and basic maintenance in accordance with safety, product quality, and housekeeping standards. Responsibilities • Function as the leader on the production line, providing direction and support to employees working on the line., • Partner with leads, mechanics, and other production employees to address production issues and implement effective solutions., • Load and unload material rolls from machines in a safe manner and verify and set machine settings according to specified setup sheets., • Manage proper and timely machine starts, stops, and restarts, including removal of scrap and rewind materials., • Assist with machine setup to ensure efficient changeovers and accurate configuration., • Perform general production activities to support the efficient production of high‑quality products., • Operate thermoforming machines, automation systems, and auxiliary equipment such as case tapers, grinders, and stackers., • Inspect finished and in‑process products against company standards and specifications to identify irregularities or defects and take appropriate action., • Ensure compliance with line clearance requirements, raw material handling procedures, in‑process inspection standards, manufacturing guidelines, and housekeeping expectations., • Conduct basic preventative maintenance, perform cavity changes, and complete other technical tasks to support reliable machine performance., • Troubleshoot machines for quality and performance issues and make adjustments within defined parameters., • Maintain accurate documentation and complete administrative tasks related to plant operations and production records., • Collaborate with shift supervision to understand training needs, help structure training plans, and support individual progress for employees on the assigned shift., • Maintain a clean, organized work area that is free of unused items, carts, and idle machinery to reduce safety hazards and support good housekeeping practices., • Comply with all environmental, health, and safety (EHS) policies, regulatory requirements, and company safety rules., • Promptly report unsafe conditions, unsafe practices, or environmental concerns to supervision and assist in resolving potential hazards., • Attend scheduled EHS training sessions and actively support the achievement of EHS goals by identifying opportunities for improvement., • Demonstrate safe work habits, including proper lifting and bending techniques, good ergonomics, correct use of equipment, and consistent use of required personal protective equipment (PPE)., • Strictly follow all fall protection procedures, including the proper use of harnesses, platform ladders, railings, and lifts when required., • Ensure adherence to all Lockout/Tagout (LO/TO) procedures and support enforcement of these safety controls., • Follow all Product Safety and Quality standards and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) related to food contact packaging., • Comply with product defense standards and all Safe Quality Food (SQF) requirements.Essential Skills, • Proven ability to operate production machinery safely and efficiently in a manufacturing environment., • Hands‑on experience with machine operation and production processes., • Mechanical aptitude and ability to work with hand tools and equipment., • Ability to read, understand, and apply machine setup sheets and product specifications., • Skill in using basic tools such as tape measures and other measuring devices to verify settings and product dimensions., • Capability to perform basic preventative maintenance and cavity changes on production equipment., • Strong attention to detail for inspecting in‑process and finished products against quality standards., • Commitment to following EHS policies, safety procedures, and regulatory requirements, including Lockout/Tagout and fall protection., • Ability to follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and Safe Quality Food (SQF) requirements for food contact packaging., • Effective communication skills to collaborate with leads, mechanics, supervisors, and production team members., • Ability to maintain accurate documentation and complete required production and safety records., • Capacity to work a rotating 12‑hour shift schedule, including nights and overtime as required.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Experience operating thermoforming equipment, automation systems, and auxiliary equipment such as case tapers, grinders, and stackers., • Background in a high‑volume manufacturing or packaging environment, particularly with food contact packaging., • Demonstrated ability to lead and train other production line employees., • Experience identifying and implementing improvements to safety, quality, and production processes., • Familiarity with in‑process inspection procedures and documentation in a regulated environment.Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is based in a manufacturing facility with a production floor that can be hot in the summer and cooler in the winter. The position follows a rotating 24/7 schedule, with options that include a night shift from approximately 6:55 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. and a day shift from approximately 6:55 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., on a repeating rotation. The environment includes operating thermoforming machinery, automation systems, and auxiliary equipment such as case tapers, grinders, and stackers. Team members work around moving mechanical equipment, follow strict safety and food‑quality procedures, and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required by site policies. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Mcdonough, GA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $24.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
