Job Description The START Center for Cancer Research (“START”) is the world’s largest early phase site network, fully dedicated to oncology clinical research. Throughout our history, START has provided hope to cancer patients in global community practices by offering access to cutting edge trials throughout the US and Europe. Job Description Position Overview: Under the broad supervision of the Program Supervisor of the Central Harlem, Westside Center, Jamaica or Far Rockaway Preventive Services Program, this position is responsible for the direct supervision and monitoring of children and families who are deemed to be at risk of foster care placement in the communities of Central Harlem, Washington Heights, Jamaica, Far Rockaway and surrounding communities. The scope of these responsibilities includes, but is not limited to individual and family counseling, home visits, school visits, monitoring of medical, mental health and educational services. Position Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have at least a Bachelors Degree in Social Work or related field. Prior experience in child welfare or other social services, including day care, youth services or other related programs that involves direct work and contact with children and families. Job Description Summary: The Senior Case Manager provides direct assistance, either in-person or telephonically, to victims of crime and abuse, specializing in working with survivors of intimate partner and family violence (includes sexual assault and families of homicide victims). The Senior Case Manager will provide services to victims of crime and abuse. Responsibilities: • Learn and integrate a trauma-informed, client-centered approach, using an anti-oppressive lens, into your work with clients., • Conducts client centered safety assessment and risk management planning;, • Provides crisis intervention and direct assistance to victims of crime and abuse; develop creative solutions reflecting clients’ unique needs in collaboration with client, • Advocates for clients for public entitlements with systems and other agencies, where necessary, such as obtaining orders of protection, help with hospital/medical related needs; Office of Victims Services compensation, and relocation assistance;, • Provides information and referrals and facilitates linkages for clients for services such as shelters, mental health treatment, public assistance and other entitlements based on assessment and clients’ needs;, • Assesses for and provides emergency practical assistance for clients including transportation, food vouchers, financial assistance and lock replacement in accordance with agency policy;, • Engages in regular supervision meetings with supervisors to review cases, reflect on client interaction and build skills;, • Maintains thorough and accurate case records and statistics in web-based case management system;, • Collects client data, tests new interventions and tracks outcome;, • Participates in staff meetings, individual and group supervision, community meetings and relevant trainings and seminars;, • Conducts educational presentations and trainings and participates in outreach events for community groups about intimate partner and family violence, victim assistance resources and other related topics;, • Works collaboratively with other Safe Horizon programs to facilitate linkages for clients;, • Safe Horizon staff, • Criminal justice personnel, • District Attorney’s Office, • NYPD, • Office of Victim Services, • ACS, • NYCHA and Section 8 staff Required: • Must be sensitive towards and understanding of victimization;, • Must be able to demonstrate respect, compassion and a non-judgmental approach to victims of crime and abuse;, • Must be willing to participate in a learning community;, • Must be well organized and detail oriented;, • Must demonstrate the ability to work independently and be resourceful;, • Must demonstrate leadership skills (acts as a “go-to” person for colleagues, takes initiative; suggests ways to make processes work better);, • Must be a team player;, • Possess strong communication and organizational skills;, • At least three years of prior direct service experience in a social service setting is required – Or- a minimum of two years of case management experience at Safe Horizon is preferred.
