Job DescriptionDirector of Development - External Affairs Location: Garden City, NY (On-site) Job Type: Direct Hire Note: Local candidates only Position Overview One of our clients, a leading not-for-profit social service organization serving diverse and vulnerable populations across Long Island and New York City, is seeking a Director of Development to join its External Affairs team. The Director of Development plays a key leadership role in advancing the organization's mission by securing funding through events, grants, foundations, corporations, and individual donors. This individual will collaborate closely with the Chief External Affairs Officer to design and execute fundraising strategies, strengthen donor relationships, and create new opportunities for philanthropic growth. Key Responsibilities Fundraising & Donor Development * Partner with the Chief External Affairs Officer to implement a comprehensive fundraising and development plan. * Cultivate, solicit, and steward relationships with individual donors, foundations, corporations, and community stakeholders. * Identify and pursue new funding opportunities to expand the donor pipeline and meet revenue goals. * Develop donor communication materials, including newsletters, annual reports, and digital content in partnership with the marketing team. Event Planning & Management * Plan and execute all major fundraising events, including the Annual Golf for Good and Building Bridges Gala. * Manage event logistics, sponsorship outreach, donor engagement, and on-site coordination. * Lead the development of a new fundraising event in New York City, scheduled for 2026. Grants & Foundation Relations * Research and identify potential grant opportunities from government, corporate, and foundation sources. * Write persuasive grant proposals and funding applications that align with the organization's mission and strategic priorities. * Manage the grants calendar to ensure timely submissions, renewals, and reporting deadlines. * Collaborate with program teams to gather data, outcomes, and success stories for grant reporting. * Maintain accurate records of all grant and foundation activities. Qualifications & Skills * Bachelor's degree in Business, Communications, Nonprofit Management, or a related field. * Minimum of 5 years of experience in fundraising, grant writing, and event management, ideally in the nonprofit sector. * Proven experience raising funds and cultivating relationships in the New York City area. * Strong relationship-building and networking abilities with a demonstrated track record of securing sponsorships, grants, or major gifts. * Excellent written and verbal communication skills. * Highly organized, with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities. * Proficiency in donor management and CRM systems (e.g., DonorPerfect, Instrumentl, Constant Contact) and Microsoft Office Suite. * Availability to attend events during evenings and weekends as required. * Valid New York State driver's license and reliable transportation required. Performance Objectives * Increase grant proposal submissions and awarded funding compared to previous benchmarks. * Expand the organization's base of individual and corporate donors. * Successfully plan and execute all annual fundraising events and meet revenue goals. * Launch a successful New York City fundraising event by 2026.
