Job Description Summary of Position Newsday is currently seeking an Accountant to join our Financial Reporting team in our Melville, NY office location. In this position, you will be responsible for fixed asset accounting as well as handling various cash management functions. Additionally, you will record journal entries, prepare balance sheet account analysis and ensure accuracy of financial statements prepared for the month end close process. You will also prepare/review monthly variance explanations, liaison with management and financial analysts, and assist in various projects and other ad hoc analysis as assigned. Essential Duties & Functions • Fixed asset reporting including summary of capital spending, placing assets in service, retiring assets, and control functions., • Responsible for cash management functions including daily/weekly cash balance reporting and submitting/reporting wire transfers., • Assist in month-end close process, which includes recording journal entries., • Review accruals and variances for various departments., • Prepare balance sheet account analysis for assigned areas on a monthly/quarterly basis including bank reconciliations, fixed assets, prepaid assets, and accruals., • Responsible for updating monthly account reconciliation log and month-end financial reports., • Prepare year-end schedules to support annual financial statements., • Assist in physical inventory procedures., • Perform special projects and ad hoc analysis on an as needed basis. This is an interim non-exempt position. Successful completion and certification of the Branch Manager Readiness program is a pre-requisite to transition into a manager role, based on branch vacancy.
