Job Summary: The Lactation Consultant Registered Nurse provides breastfeeding education and support to parents of infants. Acts as a consultant to parents on postpartum. Conducts follow up with parents as needed. Participates in the education of nursing staff as it relates to breastfeeding. Develops policies and standards of care based upon evidenced-based practice and current research. Reviews and maintains all educational materials distributed to parents regarding breastfeeding. Participates in consortium and community related breastfeeding activities. Maintains regulatory compliance as appropriate. Maintains logs and prepares monthly reports as requested. Qualifications: Required: • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, • At least 2 years experience in Lactation Consulting, • Completion of all orientation requirements by Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center, • Current New Jersey RN Licensure, • Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association, • Part-Time, • Days, • Actively participates in patient satisfaction initiatives related to breastfeeding, • Assesses the education needs of parents as it relates to breastfeeding, • Collaborates with all members of the healthcare team to meet the needs of the family, • Develops policies and standards of care based upon evidenced-based practice and current research, • Encourages unrestricted breastfeeding, • Evaluates for signs of breastfeeding effectiveness, • Identifies maternal and infant risk factors and contraindications that relate to breastfeeding., • Participates in consortium and community related breastfeeding activities, • Participates in the education of nursing staff as it relates to breastfeeding, • Reviews and maintains current/all educational materials distributed to parents regarding breastfeeding, • Supports breastfeeding during the hospitalization and/or separation of the mother and infant, • Provides a compassionate and supportive environment with prompt and consistent service, • Adheres to patient rights provides for the confidential treatment of all communications and records, • Demonstrates professionalism with families, visitors, physicians, coworkers and supervisors, • Listens and communicates effectively, • Supports teamwork by cooperative problem-solving through participation in meetings, projects, etc., • Utilizes principles of continuous quality improvement in all work situations to assess, measure and improve organizational and department function, • Organizes work sets priorities with a minimum of supervision and seeks appropriate guidance, • Makes decisions that are timely and consistent with department, objectives, policies and procedures, • Demonstrates sound judgment; accepts and benefits from constructive criticism, • Professional Development Job Awareness, • Participates in ongoing education as required, • Demonstrates methods of establishment of breast milk for the mother of the premature infant Please note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job. The OB/Gyn Physician is directly responsible to the Chief Medical Officer of Central Jersey Medical Center, Inc. Duties Provide and coordinate all aspects of patient care as defined by their specialty, including attending to the care of hospitalized patients; responsibility for proper maintenance of the medical record (i.e. charting); problem follow-up; and arranging for and coordinating specialty consultations. Serve as major medical resource with their own area of expertise to other CJMC providers. This will involve direct supervision of nurse practitioners, as needed, as well as acting as medical consultant to other CJMC providers when required and keeping up to date in the individual specialty and actively sharing new knowledge. Share responsibility with other CJMC providers (as designated by the Chief Medical Officer) for the following: • Development, maintenance, and provision of an after-hours telephone coverage system., • Maintenance of the problem-oriented record keeping system to be used jointly with nurse practitioners, social workers, nutritionists, and other health care providers., • Maintenance and utilization of a comprehensive database., • Development and maintenance of an audit system to evaluate and monitor the quality of care rendered and to ensure compliance with protocols and that all providers give care that is complete that is complete, up-to-date, and uniformly applied to all patients in similar situations. Be involved in the design and maintenance of in-service programming for health care providers in CJMC. Release time for C.M.E. activities will be at the discretion of the Chief Medical Officer. Be involved in community activities (as part of the work week), as designated by the Chief Medical Officer. Such activities might include health fairs, presentations of health subjects at community facilities, etc. Physicians at the CJMC will have overall responsibility for the provision and coordination of patient care as defined by their specialty (i.e., Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, OB/GYN, and Family Medicine). This includes: • Provision of health maintenance services., • Diagnosis and management of disease., • Attending to the care of the hospitalized patients., • Arranging for and coordinating specialty consultations., • Serving as major medical resources within their own areas of expertise to other CJMC providers. This involves direct supervision of nurse practitioners, as needed, as well as acting as medical consultants to other CJMC members when required., • Participating in on-call system to ensure continuity of care.
