POSITION SUMMARY The Brook Supportive Housing Program has opportunities for Social Workers to join an established multidisciplinary team. The Brook permanently houses 189 residents; the majority are formerly street homeless and have serious mental and medical conditions (including HIV/AIDS) and substance misuse challenges. Social Workers are integral to our team and are responsible for helping chronically homeless individuals transition into permanent housing with supportive services. Our Social Workers provide direct clinical services to residents who have more intense psychiatric and behavioral health needs. They coordinate services that include medical care, psychiatric care, community living skills, financial management, information and referral, crisis management, supportive counseling and substance abuse treatment and referrals. The Brook provides a high level of support to its Social Workers through weekly individual supervision, rounds, on-site trainings, and staff meetings. POSITION SUMMARY: The Birth Parent Advocate will provide advocacy, support, and referral services for birth parents whose children are in foster care. The Parent Advocate helps the parent understand and navigate the foster care system, make decisions for their families, remain hopeful, and address family challenges so that they can accomplish their goal of reunification. The focus of this job is building connections with parents and working collaboratively with case planners. Each Parent Advocate will be assigned to a case planning unit and will support parents and bring their experience to the foster care agency decision-making process so that children safely return home. Parent Advocates with their own personal prior lived experience of the child welfare system will be effective in informing and supporting parents with children in foster care and help to improve outcomes for children and families. EDI Downstate operates in New York City (Brooklyn, the Bronx, Queens, and Manhattan housing courts) and on Long Island (Suffolk County District Court). Launched in late 2022, EDI is a partnership between the Center for Justice Innovation and the New York State Unified Court System. EDI’s mission is to ensure tenants and their families can access the holistic resources needed to maintain safe, stable, and affordable housing, while advancing data-driven, harm-reduction approaches to housing court practice through close collaboration with courts, government agencies, and community stakeholders. Reporting to the Director of Housing Justice Initiatives, the Project Director will lead all aspects of EDI Downstate operations, strategy, and growth across New York City and Long Island. This role includes overseeing daily program operations; supervising, training, and supporting staff; managing partnerships, contracts, and budgets; and representing the Center in citywide and regional forums. The Project Director will also advance long-term strategic planning, fundraising, and innovation efforts, with a particular focus on strengthening existing sites in Brooklyn and Suffolk County and launching EDI in new locations. Job Description PRIMARY FUNCTION/PURPOSE: The Director of Social Services is responsible for the development and delivery of comprehensive social services for clients referred to the Children’s Rescue Fund by the NYC DHS-Division of Family Services. This role is designed to help stabilize homeless families by strengthening their independent living skills and achieving their rapid and successful placement into permanent housing. The individual will be responsible for our Lighthouse location in Long Island City, NY and will serve as a member of the management team that works cooperatively to achieve program goals. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: • Master’s degree in Social Work is preferred, and at least a bachelor’s degree is required, • Five years of social services experience is required, including experience in clinical interventions with families and disadvantaged populations, group work practice, substance abuse issues and housing programs, • For candidates with a Master’s degree in Social Work, at least two years of experience in a supervisory and administrative capacity is required;
