Job DescriptionBenefits: • Competitive salary Position OverviewThe Urban Health Collaborative (TUHC) is seeking an experienced and mission-driven Chief of Staff/Deputy Director to serve as a senior organizational leader and strategic partner to the President. This position will help translate organizational priorities into action while supporting staff supervision, program and project management, operations, strategic partnerships, fundraising, and organizational growth. The ideal candidate is an adaptable leader who can work independently, supervise and develop teams, manage competing priorities, strengthen organizational systems, and build partnerships that advance TUHC’s mission. This role is well suited for someone experienced in helping a small- to mid-sized nonprofit grow while maintaining strong internal operations and accountability. Key ResponsibilitiesExecutive & Organizational Leadership • Partner with the President to translate strategic priorities into clear work plans, timelines, responsibilities, and measurable outcomes., • Oversee day-to-day organizational operations and cross-functional coordination to keep programs, projects, and administrative priorities on schedule., • Identify organizational challenges, develop practical solutions, and strengthen policies, procedures, workflows, and internal systems., • Serve as a senior point of contact for staff, contractors, volunteers, partners, and other stakeholders, and represent TUHC or the President when delegated., • Prepare and coordinate materials for leadership, staff, board, and partner meetings while handling sensitive organizational information with discretion.Staff Supervision & Team Development, • Supervise assigned staff, contractors, interns, and volunteers; establish clear expectations, timelines, performance goals, and accountability measures., • Conduct regular check-ins, monitor progress, and address workflow, communication, or performance concerns in coordination with the President when needed., • Support recruitment, onboarding, orientation, training, and professional development of team members., • Build a collaborative and accountable workplace culture while helping emerging staff develop stronger leadership skills.Program & Project Management, • Independently manage organizational projects from planning through implementation, evaluation, and completion., • Coordinate multiple programs, initiatives, partnerships, deadlines, and deliverables while ensuring teams remain aligned with organizational priorities., • Anticipate project barriers, resolve problems, and strengthen systems for tracking progress, data, reporting, and continuous improvement., • Coordinate with program staff to ensure grant-funded activities, reporting requirements, and key deliverables are completed on time.Strategic Partnerships & Organizational Growth, • Develop and maintain strategic relationships with nonprofit organizations, government agencies, educational institutions, healthcare organizations, businesses, funders, and community stakeholders., • Represent TUHC at meetings, coalitions, conferences, community events, and partnership discussions when appropriate., • Evaluate and develop partnerships and new opportunities that align with TUHC’s mission, capacity, and long-term goals., • Identify opportunities to expand TUHC’s programming, resources, visibility, partnerships, and community reach.Development & Sustainability, • Support fundraising, stewardship, grant development, sponsorships, donor engagement, and organizational development efforts., • Identify funding opportunities and contribute to grant proposals, reports, presentations, partnership proposals, and sponsorship materials., • Strengthen relationships with funders, donors, sponsors, and institutional partners while identifying opportunities to diversify revenue and support long-term sustainability.Minimum Qualifications, • Bachelor’s degree required in Public Health, Nonprofit Management, Business Administration, Public Administration, Social Work, Education, Communications, Public Policy, Organizational Leadership, or a related field., • Professional experience in a nonprofit, community-based, public health, healthcare, education, government, or other mission-driven setting., • Demonstrated experience supervising employees, contractors, interns, volunteers, project teams, or other personnel., • Demonstrated ability to independently manage projects, deadlines, and competing organizational priorities., • Strong professional writing, communication, organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.Preferred Qualifications, • Master’s degree and/or five or more years of paid leadership or management experience within a small to mid-sized nonprofit organization., • Documented track record of organizational or program growth, successful strategic partnerships, and strengthening internal systems or operations., • Experience working directly with a President, CEO, Board of Directors, or senior leadership team and supervising multidisciplinary teams., • Experience managing grants, contracts, budgets, funded programs, or organizational reporting requirements., • Experience with fundraising, grant writing, donor relations, sponsorship development, or organizational development., • Familiarity with public health, health equity, education, food access, social services, community development, or related community-based issues., • Bilingual or multilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.Position Details, • Reports To: President, • Schedule: Full-Time, • Compensation Range: $60,000–$80,000 annually, based on education, professional experience, demonstrated leadership, qualifications, and final scope of responsibilities., • Employment Structure: May be structured as either a W-2 employee or 1099 independent contractor, depending on the final scope of work and candidate qualifications., • Location: New Brunswick/Plainfield, New Jersey, with community-based responsibilities throughout TUHC’s service area., • Availability: Some evening and weekend availability may be required based on organizational, partnership, and program needs.Candidate ProfileThe successful candidate will be a trusted senior leader who can move between strategy and execution, work independently, supervise others, and help the President build the systems, partnerships, and internal capacity needed for TUHC’s continued growth.
