We’re changing how the world irrigates, and we are building an elite, world-class, Research and Development team in the heart of Seville. This is a rare opportunity to join other rising stars in your field and develop something you are passionate about, from the ground up. Are you comfortable with tight deadlines and high-pressure environments? Role purpose Validate, benchmark and advance our physics‑based hydraulic kernel, then wrap it with a robust inverse solver to produce lookup functions that estimate optimal irrigation durations under varying conditions. What you'll do • Parity & profiling: Build a test harness to verify parity between legacy MATLAB and the new Python implementations; profile and optimize (NumPy/SciPy/Numba)., • Algorithm design & optimization: Explore, benchmark, and implement advanced numerical and optimization techniques to solve complex, multi-dimensional problems efficiently., • Simulation & data generation: Produce and manage model outputs used to guide key agronomic or operational decisions, ensuring reproducibility and fast inference in production., • Cross-team integration: Partner with software and data engineers to integrate model outputs into backend services and user-facing tools through clean, well-defined APIs and data interfaces., • Performance engineering: Identify computational bottlenecks and apply acceleration strategies, including vectorization, parallelization, or GPU-based approaches, to achieve measurable speed and scalability gains. Must-haves • Postgraduate degree in Applied Math, Physics, Computational Engineering, Hydrology, or equivalent., • Strong understanding of numerical methods for ODE/PDEs (discretization, stability, convergence, time‑stepping)., • Advanced scientific Python: NumPy/SciPy, Numba/numexpr, profiling; pytest experience (Test-Driven Development)., • Experience validating models against reference implementations (MATLAB familiarity)., • Fluent English; ability to own research‑to‑production work., • Seville‑based (we require relocation to Seville; we can offer tailored support). Nice-to-haves • Soil physics / porous media (e.g., SPAC, Richards’ equation); exposure to GPU or HPC acceleration., • Comfort collaborating with backend/web teams on data contracts and performance constraints., • Proven experience working independently. Soft skills • Team working (you'll be working in a small, specialised team)., • High pressure scenarios (your team will deliver mission-critical, client-facing technology, under very tight deadlines)., • Work independently (you'll be the owner of your work, and will have the opportunity to design a codebase starting from scratch). Compensation & benefits • Base salary (gross): 50.000-70.000€, • Opportunity to earn company equity/stock options., • Tailored relocation support., • Flexible working: choose your working hours and move to a hybrid-working style. About Agrointel We’re changing how the world irrigates. Our physics/mathematical model of how water moves through soils; the SPAC (Soil‑Plant‑Atmosphere Continuum); lets us calculate, with millimetric precision, where irrigation water travels and how to optimize it, achieving up to 40% savings in water, electricity, and fertilizers. We already support 60+ clients across Spain, Peru, Mexico, and Chile, including some of the world’s biggest fruit producers, and collaborate with the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid; all while partnering with a consultancy network active in 30+ countries. Our long‑term goal is global expansion. We’re backed by a top‑4 Spanish Fortune VC. 5 Reasons to Join Agrointel • Work on breakthrough irrigation physics.
