Hello! Do you want to help us redefine how AI powers the future of Business Management software, not as an add-on, but as a core part of how people work, decide and grow? We’re looking for engineers who: - Treat AI as central to their craft - ⚡ Are obsessed with building and shipping fast - Care about real impact, not hierarchy or titles If that sounds like you, keep reading. The Role Design System Architect: This is for a systems thinker with technical firepower, a builder’s mindset, and a strong design eye. You’ll own the architecture of our company-wide design system — evolving it from a set of components to a real product infrastructure that fuels consistency, quality, and speed across every team. Think: building the rails for AI-powered design → dev workflows, creating seamless tooling from Figma to code, and setting the bar for how we scale quality across the product. Factorial is scaling fast — and this role is about laying the foundations for design and engineering to move at 10x speed with 10x consistency. You’ll have massive ownership, shape how we build product across the org, and leave a legacy in how we approach design quality at scale. You won’t just be contributing to a system. You’ll be engineering the product underneath the product. What You’ll Do As a Design System Engineer at Factorial, you’ll help define and build the next generation of our AI-native product using modern AI development practices. You will: - Lead and scale our design system across the companyDefine the technical architecture, tooling, documentation, governance, and implementation plan. Help us rethink how design systems operate in an AI-native product development flow - Design and implement AI SkillsBuild tools and plugins that connect Figma → code → AI-driven workflows - Develop and maintain evaluation frameworks (Evals)Partner with design, frontend, and product to ensure pixel-perfect execution at scale. Drive best practices around accessibility, responsiveness, and usability - Stay close to our customersWe have a strong customer-centric mindset: engineers regularly join customer calls, reviews, and feedback sessions to deeply understand real workflows, pain points, and constraints — ensuring we build the right solutions to real problems, not assumptions. - Share knowledge and raise the barMentor peers, document learnings, and contribute to Factorial’s AI engineering best practices. What we’re looking for Your title matters less than your mindset. You might be mid, senior, or staff, what we care about is: - AI as a habit: you’ve built real AI-powered systems or workflows (not just experiments) - Proven impact: shipped projects, side projects, or contributions that made a measurable difference - Product-first thinking: you design complete experiences, not just isolated components - Speed & adaptability: you experiment, learn, and iterate fast Bonus points if you’ve worked with: LLMs, skill-based agents, MCP, or other AI protocols Technical Foundation (Not Strict Requirements) Strong candidates often have: - Deep experience with React, TypeScript, and the modern frontend ecosystem - Strong understanding of Figma, tokens, and component libraries - Experience translating early concepts into production-grade design systems - Product sense — you don’t just code components, you understand why they exist - Builder mindset: you ship fast, clean, and don’t wait for perfect specs Bonus if: - You’ve built or contributed to internal tooling, plugins, or Figma-to-code pipelines - You’ve explored ways to use AI to automate or accelerate parts of the design → dev flow - You see design systems as a strategic layer, not just a UI toolkit We care far more about what you’ve built than the stack you used. How We Work - Office-first in Barcelona & Madrid, with 20% remote flexibility - A people-first, high-trust culture built on radical candor and ownership - A multicultural team (40+ nationalities) building the next generation of business management software About Factorial Factorial is the AI for Business that knows companies, connects how work happens across the business, and turns that context into action. Founded in Barcelona in 2016, we now have +1,700 employees serving more than 16,000 companies across 112 countries. Factorial started with a simple idea: companies were spending too much time managing processes and not enough time doing the work they were hired to do: their best work. But as companies grow, work gets more disconnected. More people, more tools, more information, and more time spent connecting the dots. Generic AI can answer questions, but it doesn’t know your company. Every time, you have to give it the context. Factorial is different. Because it’s inside the company, it already knows how it works, including its people, processes, policies, and data. So you can ask it to do real work, from screening candidates and managing expenses to answering questions and creating reports. AI isn’t the goal. Giving people back their time is. When work changes, so do we. We believe in diverse talent: we welcome applicants from all backgrounds and strongly encourage people of diverse experiences and identities to apply. We believe in inclusion: we are committed to equal opportunities and actively promote workplace inclusion of people with disabilities. If you would like to learn more about our inclusive recruitment processes, you are welcome to indicate so optionally and we will share additional information with you. Our Values - We own it: We take responsibility for every project. We make decisions, not excuses. - We learn and teach: We're dedicated to learning something new every day and, above all, share it. - We partner: Every decision is a team decision. We trust each other. - We grow fast: We act fast. We think that the worst mistake is not learning from them. Wanna learn more about us? Check our website! Perks of being part of Factorial - High growth, multicultural and friendly environment - Competitive ESOP plan - Alan as private health insurance - Healthy life with Wellhub (Gyms, pools, outdoor classes) - Save expenses with Cobee - Language classes - Breakfast in the office and organic fruit - Food discounts with Nora - Pet Friendly - Much more that we'll spill during the interview process! The hiring process If you apply, here’s what to expect: 1. A first conversation with our Talent Acquisition Partner. It will be about comparing our expectations and making sure we match on a human level. We will also check our Engineering Rubrics (check them out, they are open!) and the salary in your position. 2. A second conversation with the team’s Engineering Manager. This is about making sure we can work together. Here you will have a conversation about the team, their needs, your profile and how can you complement it. Expect to have a mix of a human and technical conversation. 3. A Live Engineering Challenge with two Factorial engineers: At Factorial, we’re passionate about hiring engineers who can think clearly, communicate well, leverage the best tools, and learn very fast. In this challenge, we’re not looking for a finished product, but for how you structure problems, ask questions, use technology, and reason about solutions. 4. One last coffee-chat with our CTO, where you can get all the answers about Factorial’s culture, business vision, or anything else that interests you. 5. And that’s it! Feel free to request any other conversation you want, with team members or to address specific concerns at any time during the process. The whole process is remote, using videoconferencing tools!

Hello! At Factorial, we're looking for an Engineering Manager who wants to get their hands dirty - someone who leads teams but stays close to the work, understands the domain deeply, and cares about shipping things that actually matter. We're at an interesting moment. AI isn't a feature we're adding to our product - it's changing how the product works. That means rethinking how we design and build software from the ground up, moving from deterministic systems to AI-powered workflows that help real businesses run better every day. It's genuinely hard, and it's genuinely exciting. If you're someone who gets energy from working closely with the business, growing engineers around you, and using AI not as a buzzword but as a real tool to build better products faster - we'd love to meet you. Ready to be part of the challenge? About the team Our Engineering team is the engine behind Factorial, crafting the tech that makes HR simple, fast, and reliable for thousands of companies. If you love solving hard problems and want to build something that truly matters, come build it with us. We're a team of 200+ Product Engineers building Business Management solution that actually works for the people using it. Our core stack is Ruby on Rails and React but the interesting work right now is what we're building on top of that: agentic workflows, LLM-integrated features, systems that behave probabilistically rather than deterministically. We believe that strong fundamentals, adaptability, and the ability to leverage modern tools, including AI are what truly matter. What are we looking for? You bring both leadership experience and a modern, AI-native engineering mindset. - You've managed people before and helped engineers grow, ideally beyond your own level. - You've been part of hiring processes and have a track record of bringing strong people into your teams. - You're comfortable working across teams and contributing to shared platform and service foundations. - You engage in honest, Socratic discussions focused on finding the best solution, not winning the argument. Experience and Technical Depth - 5+ years as a Full-stack engineer or similar role. - 3+ years leading engineering teams. - Strong experience designing APIs (REST, GraphQL, etc.) and building integrations. - You understand scalability, performance, and quality as real constraints and have dealt with them in production. Business Mindset Being a great Engineering Manager at Factorial means caring about more than the code. You understand the business context behind what you're building and can connect technical decisions to real outcomes for customers and the company. - You're curious about how the business works and use that understanding to make better technical calls. - You push your team to understand the problem deeply before jumping to solutions. - You think in terms of customer value, not just technical deliverables. - You're comfortable talking to stakeholders, asking hard questions, and challenging assumptions when something doesn't add up. - You know when to ship something imperfect and when to slow down and get it right. AI-Native Engineering and Product Mindset We expect Engineering Managers to lead teams building AI-powered products, not just use AI tools on the side. - You treat AI as a core part of modern software engineering, not something you bolt on at the end. - You've built or contributed to AI-powered features or workflows that made it to production. - You know what good AI development looks like in practice: defining behaviour and success criteria before you build, measuring output quality, grounding systems in real data, designing workflows that can take safe and auditable actions, and knowing when to keep humans in the loop. - You use AI-assisted tools to move faster in your day-to-day, whether that's coding, testing, debugging, or documentation. - You can help your team review, validate, and safely ship AI-generated code and behaviours. - You understand the real limitations of LLM-based systems: hallucinations, evaluation challenges, data sensitivity. - You create space for experimentation and fast learning loops within your team. - You spot opportunities where AI can genuinely simplify something complex and create real value for users. What You’ll Be Doing? - You'll start with a buddy who guides you through some non-critical tasks to get comfortable with the codebase. - You'll learn the business, the full customer journey, and work with the team to draft a roadmap. - You'll join weekly team meetings to discuss priorities and bring new ideas to the table. - You'll review the RFCs your team produces, give feedback, and push for the best way to get things done. - You'll hire as the team grows, making sure we bring in people who are both talented and good-hearted. - You'll constantly look for ways to improve how the team works. - You'll run weekly 1:1s focused on the development and well-being of each person on your team. - You'll work with other engineering managers to coordinate initiatives that cut across teams. - You'll help lead the shift to AI-native product development, not by mandating tools, but by setting the example, asking the right questions, and creating the space for your team to experiment and learn. - You'll convince or get convinced. You'll hear that a lot. How We Work (Barcelona, Madrid or A Coru ñ a Office) At Factorial, we believe the best products are built when people come together, in person to collaborate, challenge ideas, and move fast. That’s why our Engineering Teams follows an office-first, flexible schedule. We work on-site several days a week, using that time to connect, align, and innovate as a team. However, we also understand the importance of focus and flexibility, so we support remote work when it makes sense - whether for deep work, personal needs, or just a change of scenery. This balance helps us stay agile, creative, and closely connected, while giving everyone the space to do their best work. At Factorial we don't evaluate you by years of experience but by your knowledge and skills. We use our Career Path with a rubric framework where we define what is expected for each experience level and skill. This framework allows you to know your current level and what you need to keep growing. We love transparency, so our Career Path includes the salaries for each level, which we share during the first interview to ensure alignment. Our Hiring Process 1. Intro Call → Chat with our Talent Partner about your journey and goals. 2. Hiring Manager Interview → Deep dive into your product mindset, teamwork, and problem-solving. 3. Live Challenge → A collaborative technical exercise based on real-life problems. 4. Final Coffee Chat → A relaxed conversation with our CTO & VP of Engineering to explore our vision, culture, and your growth. And that’s it!
