Position Overview ASB is seeking a talented, passionate, and collaborative Upper Elementary Homeroom Teacher to cover a maternity leave for the 2026–2027 school year. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of child development and developmentally appropriate practices, and will be committed to creating a joyful, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment that supports the academic, social‑emotional, and behavioral growth of all learners. The successful candidate will have experience implementing evidence‑based literacy instruction aligned with the Science of Reading, including familiarity with UFLI Foundations or a similar structured literacy/phonics program. Candidates should also have experience teaching conceptual mathematics through a student‑centered approach such as Bridges in Mathematics or a comparable program. Experience with the Writers Workshop model, Understanding by Design (UbD), Responsive Classroom practices, and language development and acquisition is highly valued. Main Job Duties • Create a flexible and engaging classroom environment that supports learning, collaboration, and personal growth, • Plan and deliver developmentally appropriate instruction aligned with ASB curriculum standards and best practices in elementary education, • Implement evidence‑based literacy instruction grounded in the Science of Reading, including explicit phonics and foundational skills instruction using UFLI Foundations or a similar curriculum, • Teach mathematics using a conceptual, student‑centered approach such as Bridges in Mathematics or a comparable framework, • Utilize the Writers Workshop model to support students’ development as writers through authentic and differentiated instruction, • Design learning experiences using Understanding by Design (UbD) principles to promote deep understanding and transfer of learning, • Support multilingual learners through an understanding of language development and acquisition, • Establish and maintain a positive classroom culture using Responsive Classroom practices and strong behavior management strategies, • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic, linguistic, social, and emotional needs of students, • Assess student learning regularly using a variety of formative and summative measures and maintain accurate student records, • Communicate consistently and collaboratively with families regarding student progress and classroom learning, • Collaborate effectively with grade‑level teammates, learning support staff, specialists, and school leadership to support student success, • Participate fully in the life of the school community and contribute positively to team culture Preferred School‑wide Qualifications • Valid teaching credentials and a master’s degree in elementary education or a related field, • Recent teaching experience in upper elementary grades, • Strong classroom management and social‑emotional learning facilitation skills, • Experience supporting language development and working with multilingual learners, • Experience using data‑driven assessment practices to inform differentiated instruction, • Evidence of ongoing professional learning and collaboration, • Experience working in an internationally and linguistically diverse school setting, • Strong oral and written communication skills within a school community, • Ability to integrate instructional technology meaningfully into teaching and learning, • Familiarity with Spanish language and culture is a plus All prospective employees must be able to clear a background check as well as a sexual offenders clearance for all other countries where the candidate has lived or worked for a period of 3 months or more, over the last 5 years.
