No work experience, no problem!
Are you a first-time jobseeker worried about your CV? Well, brace yourself as we’re about to let you in on a juicy little secret: you’ve got this.
All you have to do is follow a few simple steps that will help you come up with an impressive CV.
Before we get started, keep in mind that the trick to writing a great CV with no experience is to 1) know what your employer wants done and to 2) let them know that you’ve got what it takes to get the job done.
Have a think and identify what you’re really good at. Now, whether you’re creating a CV from scratch or using resume-building tools such as the wicked JOB TODAY profile (only the best for you 😉), you’re pitching yourself.
So, you need to come up with a list of all your incredible skills and see how you can apply it to the job you want. These are, what we call, transferable skills.
For instance, did you kick butt at football? That shows your ability to be a team player and your motivation. Not only that, if you were a football goal keeper, this means that you have exceptional hand-eye coordination- a skill that can come in handy if you’re applying to be a barista, a server or a bartender.
This is your chance to wow your employer and to let them know why you’re perfect for the role.
Write a brief, catchy career objective that shows your personality and your love for hard work. If you’re creating your JOB TODAY CV, then use these tips when drafting your ‘About Me’ statement. Your employer will see how amazing you are, just like we do! Here’s an example from a barista’s JOB TODAY CV to help you out:
“Let me help your business grow. I’m a friendly, outgoing person with a serious love for coffee and appreciate the value of hard work. With a customer-focused attitude, I enjoy meeting new people and helping them find their coffee flavour.”
Mention how you rock the skills required for the position. The example above illustrates passion for coffee and a cordial persona that is vital for a front, customer facing role.
See, it’s not so hard 😄
Here’s where you go crazy with any internships, volunteer work or other extra-curricular projects and use them to show that you do have some experience. If you were a member of the debate team, the cricket team, volunteered at the local hospital or spent the summer helping your aunt as a receptionist (or in any other capacity) at her guesthouse – it all counts as experience!
Whoohoo, your CV is coming together!
Now, don’t worry if you weren’t able to engage in such extracurricular activities. It’s never too late to start. Remember, time is your friend.
The good news 🎉🎉 is that there are plenty of jobs out there that require no experience on platforms such as JOB TODAY. We recommend that you try your luck with no experience jobs first. Then, sit back and enjoy as a whole world of opportunities will open up for you. And when you land that interview, read up on how to ace that interview with no experience.
Little tip: when you’re applying for roles on your JOB TODAY app, focus on roles that are marked with a little green tag and the label: No experience.
Hey, we just want to make things as easy as possible for you☺️ 😄 Best of luck!
